Help with small mom/clone cab

Hello!

I've been lurking this forum for quite a while now and this is my first post. This is a great community. Greetings to all the green-thumbs :)

I am thinking about 1-2 bonsai type mother plants, need 3 clones per week.

I am still considering the dimensions of the cab, but i think that 14" tall and 16" wide should do the trick.

What type(CFL's, Fluro-tubes,any other suggestions?)and how much light do I need for this kind of setup?
What kind of ventilation should I install?

Best regards! :)

mornin' man, and welcome to the hobby although i warn you that growing is much more addictive than smoking ever thought of being!

anyway, here are a few links that may help you answer your questions and unfortunately that is gonna be the best way for you to get answers because just asking questions and waiting for answers can be very frustrating. ...it's important to remember that while you are new at this, this site has been here helping people learn to grow for some years so all the simple questions have been asked ad nauseum so answers are easy to find for those willing to look.

first up is a link to my own motherbox build, a dresser conversion project.

then there is SOGs clone-box which started out as a little cab sold as dormroom furniture.

and finally a thread on the creation and care of bonsai mothers.

...shit, here's another one that you should thumb through as well for it contains links to most of the best DIY projects on the site.

ICMAG'S OFFICIAL ~DIY~ LINK-O-RAMA

lol, that'll keep you busy for a minute.

TYVM for your reply and the links.
Your cab sure looks sweet :)

I've been reading up on things, including the bonsai mother thread, a lot of good information here. I love it.

My plan is to go for a perpetual SOG, inspired by no other than DrBud himself and by Anti's Micro Stealth Cab.

I will be using 4x55w PL-L's in the flowering cab.
Flowering box dimensions:
24" Tall
24" Wide
14" Deep

4x 55w PL-L = 19200 Lumen
19.200/2.33 = 8240 Lumen sq. ft.

Still need to figure out the ventilation for flowering and some details, but I am getting there :)

Currently I am stuck with the veg cab design. I've been searching a lot of forums for information on the most optimal light setup for a micro mom/clone cab, but with little to no luck.

Maybe I should make the veg cab bigger, put 2x55w PL-L's there and call it a day. Then it will be 3000K in both veg & flower. If I recall correctly, knna said that it is no problem, to use 3000K in veg. On the other hand, CFL's would give friendlier color temperature for veg.

Just wanted to hear any thoughts on this from the guru's :)
Any input is highly appreciated.

Btw, that collection in the Link-o-Rama is very nice, I am off to lurk those threads now :)
Thanks again, justanotherbozo!

hey there, just to put this into perspective, i quite easily keep 12 mother plants under 2x21Watt eco t5's. i cole under a 9w cfl and can root 8 clones at a time.

clones and mums dont need much light or space.

yeah, VerdantGreen is right that you don't need much light for moms or clones, that mother box fixture uses 4x 24watt bulbs and i habitually use only 2 bulbs so 48watts for ALL my moms and the clone box is wired for 4x 55watt PL-Ls but in there i'm also only using 2 bulbs, both of which are down below so my clones root with reflected light only, the lower bulbs also provide warmth for my cloners.

btw, PL-Ls are available in a variety of Kelvin temps so you can use 3000K or 6500K, whichever you prefer, me i like the 4100's as they are almost identical in spectrum to a Ceramic Metal Halide.

...i'd also like to suggest that you not be too concerned with getting everything perfect, when you are first starting out i think stable should be your goal and with steady improvements along the way you will find the things that work best for you in your own unique situation.

Unfortunately in my area the only available PL-L's are: 3000K,3500k and 4000k.

Thanks for the input guys.
I will go with a 1x21W T5, maybe add a small CFL for the clones.

Best regards.

you do know they are available online in ANY of the Kelvin temps they make? ...no need to settle for what's available locally.

...there is a thread here that is a PL-L club of sorts that has links to MANY suppliers, for ballasts and such too and not just bulbs, all of which are available for shipment to your door, if you need help finding that thread just give a shout out and i'll find the link.
