Help with odd seed expression

I have a cross I'm producing which once seeded the calyx recedes and the seeds grow naked and are easily seen. Has anyone else experienced this? I noticed it shortly after pollination. Seeds are still green with dried pistils hanging out of them..... Kinda cool, but idk what advantage this would hold..

I ended with 4 sisters to the "nude seed". All its sisters displayed different phenotypical expressions. One tall, two short, one average but lanky and heavy on the variegation. Three with green flowers, one with purple/pink. Each had one branch pollinated but only one expressed this naked seed phenomenon. Out of all the sisters the purple/pink seems to have the most desirable traits overall with "nude seed" being second. Below is the purple sister.

I'm guessing that's indoor? I wonder if UV would nuke those seeds outside. Interesting but undesirable for the grower I think.

Undesirable? More like the easiest deseeding job ever. You can get your seedpacks loaded up twice as fast with a plant like that.

That's why I was asking about UV, because if it negatively effects seed viability under natural conditions it's about as useful as blight.

I have never had a plant where the seed is completely outside of the calyx but have had a few where the calyx is very open and the seeds basically fall out.
I like them better than the other end of the spectrum where you basically have to peel the calyx 'flaps' away from each side to get to the sometimes already split open seeds....

For all those interested I'll be adding more pictures soon. I'd like to have a vote and gauge everyone's opinion on whether or not to try and isolate the "naked seed" trait. Reply with a yes or no and also a short description of why.



I'll vote yes because of rarity, novelty, and potential commercial applications. It's definitely not the most desirable trait but more research is required. Is the trait inherited? If so is it dominate or recessive, what impact does environment have, is it more or less susceptible to disease, fungus, or deficiency. All in all she's a neat plant, great strong, stout structure, indica dominate, quick flowering, grapefruit citrus smelling with strong spice and incense, and she has good trichome production.

I remember reading exactly that a long time ago. I think it was in Robert Clarke's book "Hashish!". Said it was a trait he had observed mostly in wild cannabis, if I remember correctly.

I remember wild hemp plants out in the cornfields around my house growing up had exposed seeds, were covered in sap (not trichomes, I later figured out), and would give you the worst headache of your life.
