Help with Humidity

What is the best way to test the humidity levels and to keep the room at optimal conditions regarding this. I'm thinking a humidifier of course, but I want to take the best and most effective course of action (cheaply if possible).

All you need is a thermometer that has a humidity reading on it. These work well and are cheap. And you dont necessarily need a humidifier if your humidity is in range. I only use my humidifier in veg at certain times during the year.

yeah they call them hygrometers, got mine at wal mart. they show temp and rh level on the same unit.

when you are in veg you can keep the humidity a little above 50%. usually people will start to back off on the humidty and get it down to 40% or lower when the flowers are developing and mold could be an issue.

some strains are known to be picky about humidity and like a slightly high humidity to really dense up.. so its tough to balance but i think most people just like to keep the levels from fluctuating too much or going to one extreme.

Make sure if you get a humidifier get a cool mist humidifier and get one with a visable mist, may cost 30 bucks instead of 20.I use mine whenever relative RJH drops below 50% in veg,its also an excellent natural mite repellent. In flower you may want a dehumidifier, especially during the dark hours. They are a lot more expensive though
