Help with dying leaves/plants

Hey fellows,

I was recently hit by a wave of thrips and a bud who did not really take care of my plants (less light, less water than usual) and basically my whole grow is dying away slowly. But they're not just drying out instead the leaves die while the stem stays green, leaf tips turn brown and curl.

Is that something that thrips can do or is it some kind of nute-concentration in the bottom giving a indulgance of salt or rather a defiency of something?

I ordered little helpers to get rid of the thrips but I guess that is not the only thing that needs to get fixed here.

I watered the last weeks only with water per spray bottle, so that no water ran out of the bottom. Might flushing help?

Gotta start with a normal batch of organic fertilizers in the coming weeks but I'd rather get clarity first

thanks a lot

It could be either/or.
Close-up pics would be helpful for determining the thrip infestation.

Regardless, leaving a grow in the care of somebody else is a winning care program for crop failure.
(You ain’t the only who has made that mistake, lol.)

Seriously, those plants are silly now.
Time to start over... yourself.
JMO.

Best regards.

Like what was said above. Start over after a major cleanup. You'll do better next time.
Don't beat yourself over this. Stuff happens and you're not the 1st to have plants go bad.

thanks but if I can't fix my mistake I guess this happens with the next plants as well? I can't take care of my plants all the time so it's the only option I got. Guess I use a holiday-blumat next time :shucks:

Time to start over... Major clean up needed. Thrips are gnarly. Two mistakes- over fertilizing, not attacking thrips when first noticed. Lessons learned.

Hey guys <3 :*

I made some more pics to show you the leafs, I have too much plant to lightheartly start new again so I hope to rescue most of them. 200 Chrysoperla carnea were ordered to clean the situation up a bit.

I rarely gave nutrients this grow and mostly used clear tap water sprayed over the whole green to a)have a higher humidity vs the thrips
b) "shoot" off some thrips off the leaves with the most dense nozzle
c) don't have any signs of over-fertilization (didn't work out?)
basically I watered 1 in 4 times with nutes (with less concentration than the biobizz bottles suggest) and usually so much, that it did not flow out of the bottom (huge mistake even if only using nutes once due to salt buildup?)

here we go
1 - you can easily see the poor leafs.

2 the front plant is slowly dying while the one in the back is doing okay

3 close uppp

4 a relatively healthy plant in the room (with thrips of course)

5 - close up for thrips

and as always, thanks for watching - <3 Phi

thanks (also to the others ;))

yeah, I was gone for the holidays and am leaving often to visit my partner who lives hours away so often I end up having the option to give em no HPS at all or ask my dude. he became really sloppy the last days so I really think I should just opt for a blumat tropf and put em openly into the room instead of the growtent or something ...

No offense intended but would you be so kind as to explain how I could make that determination from your moniker :tiphat:

Am I missing something? Why would your dude have to give your plants HPS light. Is your light not on a timer?

Yes but the timer is on a on on/off switch that is only on, when somebody is at home. I am rather cautious when it comes to that. :) :tree:

I think you’ve got the right idea with the Bluemats (darn automispel won’t allow the right spelling for this one, lol). Actually haven’t tried them myself, but all the reviews I’ve seen rave on them.

Another thing that could work well if you’re in a hurry or on a budget is the “wick system” Ed Rosenthal publicized so many moons ago. It’s basically putting ropes in the pots, with the ends of the ropes hanging down into a reservoir to wick the water up. The kind of rope matters, but I don’t recall what kind of rope, sorry.
I’ve used it and it works great as a self-watering system and still might again in the future. Only real drawback is that anything with a reservoir in the space can cause humidity problems, but those can be alleviated by finding the right water volume for the space.

Bluemats are probably your best option, IMO, but I just figure the wick system is worth a mention.

so I gave all of em a good shower and yesterday my little helper arrived. Fortunately, out of ~ 30 plants only one eventually died and all the others are sprouting really well with new, green unifrom leaves and to kick it off I bought a new 600W HPS with a super nice 7200K

thanks guys :*
