help with cloning

i have a plant right now that is very slowww growing, and i want to clone it to see whether its a male or female to see if im wasting my time keeping it around. right now it has probably 6-7 nodes and is only about 4 inches above soil. i was wondering what would be a good method of topping and cloning the cutting so i can put the rooted clone under 12/12. i want to be effectively, but also do it cheaply (i hve no $). right now im running it under 24/0 light with cfls. your help would be much appreciated, because i have been growing this plant for way too long, and it is showing no signs of sex.

How old is the plant? 4" is very small, but you can sex the plant. I dout you would get the cut to live. I would let your plant strech out some change to 18/6 move your lights up higher over the plant.

Go from the top of rhe plant to the 3rd node from the top. Cut 1/8 inch above that node remove the middle set of leaves... you need atleast 2 inches of stem, IMO. Put some aluminum foil over a glass of R/O, poke hole, place cut through hole, put under 12/12. Stem must be in the water!

Give it a couple of weeks though, Dont take the cut now.

Good luck!

When you take a cutting to determine sex, instead of a 12/12 photoperiod try 14 dark 10 light and it'll show sex faster every time, the cutting doesnt need to root to show sex.The extra dark hours shaves off a couple days normally.

Thats a good idea!

by growing too long i mean probably like a month and a half, this isnt my first grow so i can tell that its very odd.....
the other problem that i forgot to mention was that my cfl's have been on 24-0 but 2 of them have already burnt out! they were brand new in the box....theres no way they ran out of juice. i think it might be some sort of electrical problem (i live in a pretty old house) what should i do? because if i switch to flowering like how you guys say, im gonna bust out my 70w hps, and that'll suck alot more power than just 1 or 2 26w cfl's....
pictures soon
