Help with Central Air system

I want to incorporate my central air into my flower room? How do others growers with experience in this keep back pressure out of the entire house and or smell just leaking out from room and blowing it throughout the entire house?

I have a filter attached to my cold air return with fan 350cfm fan and cooled or heated air come into the room the normal way (a vent)

I have a Main 16"x10"x9' running in between both rooms that I boxed in when I constructed the rooms. So I was thinking about tapping the side of the COLD Air Return with two six inch 24v temperature controlled Dampers (Always closed) for each room. So potentially when the ac is running 4x6 inch exhaust could allow for back pressure into the rest of the house (During open) Condition and that would be very bad....
Also, can you have more than one thermostat connect to a central air system???

id think youd be better off with its own independent a/c instead of tapping into the central and running 2 thermostats.run a split sytem into that room that way when its winter u dont have to run the central for the whole house as well.assuming that the room is always hot even during the winter time as well.dont know if its upstairs or downstairs (the room).

im setting up a new room right now but the plan is to have air coming in from the central air system via the vent in the ceeling and also having a ac system in the room just in case the central air doesnt cool enough.

I currently use my centeral AC to cool my room. I draw air through a carbon filter, through my cool tube(s) and then is exhasted out the cold air return. I closed a lot of my vent so the majority of the AC goes to cooling the room and I just played with the termastat and the room stays between 74-79 degrees f.

I recently patched into the central AC ducting and ran lines to my flower and veg rooms. I am not sure if I did everything completely correct (with back pressure and all) but it is working great.

We have had record temps and I have been running it 24/7 for 7 weeks. High temps with lights on is 74 and low temp with the lights off is 67.

I leave the vent exhaust fans running constantly to help with the humidity. I do not run co2, but I am sure there are concerns with this setup if you do.

As to your question about the smell coming back out, I run the 6 inch inline fans 24/7 whether the AC is running or not. So there is no smell that can come back up the vents.

WaterFarmFAn - you are losing cfm's with those 6" to 4" adapters. Cutting bigger holes will do a better job. Also - make sure your returns are clear, too little airflow coming back into the furnace/blower could cause the a-coil to freeze up.

Nicely done.

wow, just checking back in thanks for all the help...
I do not understand why you put inline fans between your main AC Duct and the room. Mine already has been boxed in and dry walled between the two rooms. I guess I do not under stand why you would pull air 7/24 on a on or off state?

Has anyone every used duel thermostats on one unit?

I am certainly not an expert in category. The inline fans were put into increase the air flow to the rooms. It is quite hot outside and this has really helped bring down the temps. I could add a thermostat to control the fans as well. It is 24/7 to battle the temps and prevent backflow. Your room is quite larger and has more variables.

air cooled hoods on a fully separate circuit I/O to the outdoors or crawlspace/atticspace--

Central a/c duct in room--exhausted with a vortex 6in and can 100 to the rest of the house via a vent i made through the wall.

Yes I kinda of have major heat problems and run a BIG CARBON FILTER off of a 750 CFM pulling air out 7/24. Back pressure would really be the only reason I would think to do it your way with inline fans (Back pressure a Major Concern....Stinky in house very bad!!!). I am thinking more about an always off dampers hooked to separate 24v relays to cool it down. Using the central air idea is just trying to tap electricity/cooled air already being used and avoid using a separate unit which equals to a lot more juice KW.

hey bro. I tapped into my homes central a/c system for my grow room. a couple changes will make your bloom / veg rooms much more efficient for cooling, exhausting etc. and be less stressful on your central a/c systems fan.

here are a few suggestions.

I would remove your inline fans from your central a/c lines that blow air into your grow spaces. it isnt need here because your central a/c has a strong blower fan that already does this job.

I would get a couple $10-12 6" x 10" a/c registers that have the round 6" connection for a hose on the backside. install the a/c registers (vent) in the top of each room and connect the 6" hose from your central a/c straight to the back of the registers.

I would change your 4" exhaust to a 6" size so you wouldn't need the 6 to 4 reducer which cuts your cfm rating in half. install and connect your inline fans to your 6" exhaust port on top of each room and have the inline fans pull the air out of the rooms instead of pushing the a/c air in. this creates a negative pressure on your rooms to control odor leaks etc.

In addition, if you dont already have one, you would need to cut a passive air intake at the bottom of each room to pull fresh air in. my setup pulls air in from an adjacent room in the house. I put a return air vent cover over it and made it light tight so no light leaks out or in. I would make sure it is at least double the size of your exhaust area.

on your flower room exhaust, I would install a carbon scrubber close to the ceiling and exhaust fan so your inline fan pulls scrubbed exhaust air out of your flower room. if your strains stink in veg, you might want one here too.

regards,
JT
