borrowed a 5 bag set<5 gallon> of bubblebags but do not have pressing screen. understand the process, however, before we get started, want to know what we can use in lieu of this screen. anyone run into this before? any ideas? thanks......sub
You might try to use the 25 micron bag itself. Just dry it out and use the bottom to press your bubble. I say this because the pressing screen itself is 25 micron fabric.
Don't press bubble while it's wet....
Spoon it off the screen and place it on some clean cardboard, or if you don't mind waiting a day or 2 longer for it to dry, put it on a plate ontop of the fridge.
If you go the cardboard route, be sure to move the piles around after the water starts soaking into the cardboard....
Be warned that stuff is sticky and gets everywhere..
I would recommend using the plate cause you can scrape the hash off once dry, whereas I have lost a small amount to carboard...
Don't press it wet, break it up, and let er dry...
Good luck...
you defintly want to give it a good squeeze to make sure as much moisture has been realesed....you can use the indiviual bags as a "pressing" screen...after you've pressed the fresh bubble, its important to chop it up and put it on a substance that absorbs liquid(cardboard seems to be the best)
thank you every one for the quick responses! whatwe ended up doing was semi pressing in the bottom of each bag as it was pulled and drained. it is now on clean glass and chopped up with razor blades. we are researching as we go, and i believe we will be placing it on cardboard next for drying. how long and does this sound right?
"Don't press bubble while it's wet...." Quote from ROOKIE.
Nice at least somepeople are learning the proper way to dry your wet resin.
People think that pressing the water out of there wet resin, is actually what there doing, but in fact it is wrong, you are pressing water into your resin instead of out.
You want to absorb the loose water from your wet resin, not press it.
After you have rinsed your wet resin with clean water, place the bag on a kitchen shami, and let the shami abosorb the loose water. Then collect your semi dry resin with a plastic card, and place on a silkscreen ( 23 micron) to be properly dried. You can then take a paper towel and press from the bottom of the silskcreen underneath your resin pile, and absord more water, then use your plastic card and chop up your resin to a fine powder and then apply the paper towel underneath your resin pile again to abosrb more loose water. Do this a few more times evey hour or so, and then let dry for 12 to 24 hours. Depending on the climate you live in. It will be ready for smoking after this, for pressing wait at least 5 to 10 days.
that's a real nice bubble drying setup you have there ilife.
did you have those drawers mader for drying bubble? or do you use that for drying bud too? very nice anyway.
the reason people get a bit confused about pressing their bubble too early is because of the so called pressing screens you get with the bags. i only use those screens to gently sqeeze the excess water out, before i chop it up to dry.
gaiusmarius, squeezing and pressing are the same thing. You really want to absorb the water out.
The racks system is a Professional Holding rack for a Automatic Silkscreen Machine. Can be bought at any good silkscreen supply store. Then you custom order your silkscreens for the micron unit size you prefer. I use the 300's.(holes per inch). Excellent for seperating and drying your resin powders. I leave one screen on top empty for protection for the ones below, then the 120um on the second screen from the top then the 73um, 45um, 25um, then food grade on the bottom screen.
Nice setup....it also resembles baking racks....before I read your description I thought that's what you were using as a frame. A similar setup works great for drying buds as well. Thank you for the explanation...
pressing means to press it with a rolling pin or jar, screen and towel. some people try and press it so dry right away that it can be smoked asap.
to squeeze gently in the screens to remove the excess dripping water, is not the same thing as pressing it as mentioned above.
the reason i do the gentle squeeze, is so that the bubble doesn't stick to the cardboard while drying. i never leave it in a lump, i always open them up again so it can dry well.
anyway i like your drying rack, it's very professional. not in my means though, lol. not for the few runs i do per year. i never get amounts like that either so the rack would just collect dust.
so tell me what's the harm in giving it a gentle squeeze before crumbling it up again? do the trichomes get damaged? i suppose they must do hey? i'm gonna try next run without squeezing gently, lol.
In this situation they are the same, because you are using the same tool, YOUR HAND. Either pressing the wet resin in the pressing screen with your hand or gently squeezing it with your hand, is the same action just less pressure.
I do not have any scientific words for it. But when you press wet resin before it has poperly dried, you will find it will never completly dry. You can press wet resin, then chop it up and let it dry. But when you go to press it after it has dried you find it will not stick together properly, it will flake and crumble.
If you are careful and "Do Not Bruise the Fruit" by gently absorbing the loose water from your wet resin and then let it properly dry. It will stick together when hand pressed.
Yes A baker rack can also hold silkscreens very well. I prefer the Automatic silkscreen racks because the screens pull out from the sides instead of long ways. Alowing to access the whole screen more easily.
dude my bubble always sticks together when i press it after it's dry. in fact i don't even have to press it, jus haveing it in my pocket in a bag will make it stick together in a lump.
this guy is also hand pressed after drying...and he's only made from 120u
Yeh i have only made one batch but all mine sticks together. I just pressed mine a little right after i made it by rolling a beer bottle over it in the pressing screen . I smoked some right away and it was great! Then i let it dry out overnight in the freezer on a piece of cardboard, it was even better after that. i love bubble and can't wait to run my next batch .
Ya, i had that problem once with some sour bubble 120u made with fresh trim.
Didnt use the pressing screen as I didnt get much and I didnt want to lose any on the screen...
stickiest bubble i've ever made.
Hey Gai thats hilarious man....
Hash looks great too... hehe
Why is he holdin his own though?? You should make him a hash chick to help..
Poor ole lonely hash dood..
hey everyone thank you for replies. was lucky enough to go back a little farther into the thread and got much info before second run. learned from many of the people who ended up replying in my thread!! very happy with the results i got, especially knowing the next batch will be even better. I am a HUGE bubble fan now! Its a little depressing looking back over the years though...so much waste! so thanks again...subrob
