HELP! What to do with a bunch of COIR?

Always looking for a easier way to grow. I had been growing indoor organic with dirt. I purchased some coco fiber bricks believing that coco fiber would make the soil lighter. I had the misconception that all was needed was to add a little more fertilizer and pertilite. I believed that coco fiber would be perfect for the roots. My question is : What do I do with this bunch of coco. Can it be added to soil ?Why did my plants, and others report this problem just screw up? Nothing changed but the fiber. Even at 25% levels the plants suffered. This is considered a good coco fiber and I rinsed it a long time. Has any other organic soil grower figured what to do with coco? Was this a stupid idea. This is to expensive to use for fire wood. :badday:

I have heard bad things about the bricks, the only type I use is the Canna coco peat uncompressed and I've had good mileage from it with a few clones at 25%.
The source of coir is the key here but you rinsed so I still don't get it...

I've grown in coco before and it does have it's chalenges in an all organic context and that's why I'm back to soil and trying to blend soil and coco to get the best of both worlds.

Now you have mescared 'cause I'll be flowering in a blend in a few weeks...

What type of failures have you seen and what types of def's do you thing happened??

Suby, I have a 25% mix going and have had no problems yet. You can look at the Venomhead thread for proof. They are doing great. I used Botanicare's brand. It has been in the mix for 2 weeks before I used it and I soaked it in rotating fresh water for 3 weeks before I rinsed it and added it to the mix. I think soaking it is the key. But I also build my soil to try and prevent any def;s that may occur.

This is the problem using the coir = what looks a lot like neut lockout.Guess I solved it though very large bag of home made potting mix. this coir wont even equal 5% if it screws me up at 5% then  I will quit growing get a normal job and donate all my free time to the poor in the community. I wont be growing so I won't be smoking  Ive just got two more bricks.Does any one know how this stuff burns?

Octo it's the salt in the bricks that is often the culprit, coconuts are grown by the sea and are soaked.
They are often stored in seawater until broken up and rinsed.
What was the brand Octo?
