Hey guys,

I thought my lil guy was nitrogen difcient a few days ago but I was probably over watering it. Now I have a new problem.

All the leaves started to droop, the edges of the leaves started to brown or turn a copper color. The stems are purple on top and green on the bottom. The lower leaves are turning yellow.

Picture attached.
Please help!

We need more info to solve it. It looks like potassium and calcium are deficit, overwatering and your soil has huge sticks that tie up nitrogen to break down the wood. What's the soil? What kind of water are you using? What are you feeding it? What's the temps? If you ask over at the infirmary and give us more details it makes it better for all involved to help you get it sorted.

Don't try to correct something until you're pretty sure what you're dealing with, you usually end up making it worse.

What soil are you using?

Are you using plain water or fertilizer? Do you know the pH of the water/fert?

That looks like amended soil meaning you don't need to add fertilizer, just water. My random guess is nutrient burn or pH lockout.

So I am a new grower first off: I am using Miracle Gro Moisture control potting mix.

I also just started using Miracle Gro all purpose plant food.

I do not know the pH of the water/ fert.

I am starting to think its nutrient burn as well. it seems like a chain of events that took place. What I mistook for a Nitrogen difcientcy was really over watering. So I stopped watering to let the soil dry out. So I think it was a combo of over watering and nutrient burn.

what type of soil do you recommend when I transplant it?

Could be any one of a bunch of issues. pH is very important since roots can only take nutes in when pH is in range below 6 and above 7 you will have all kinds of issues with pH lockout. Get a pH tester and use it every time you feed and water.
MG may get you through veg but you will need a different fert for bloom. I recommend getting something like a 3 part nute system for growing canna. Fox farm is a popular choice.
I used fox farms happy frog soil for my first grow and it is also a popular soil that many have had success with. Any good soil should get you through first month with minimal need for nutes. Using too much nutes is an easy way to make your plants pissed off and can kill them quickly.
I would stop nutes for now and start pH'ing your water. Also do watering and test the pH of water going into your soil and test the your runoff and that will give you an idea of your soil pH.

sounds like nute burn...when you said miracle gro it's most likely nute burn. just use plain water till they recover from it. miracle gro doesn't have magnesium in it so that's most likely what you thought was N def. there's sooooooo much nitrogen in miracle gro it's not even funny. you will maybe never have nitrogen def till later on in flower. that soil has time release ferts in it so once you get established roots you don't want it to get dry all the way bone dry you get a salt buildup really fast. like i said plain water it out. you can add a teaspoon of epsom salt per gallon of water and use that once a week all through the life of your plant to add magnesium. don't overdo it, it'll drop your pH pretty low if you do.

^^^^ Has alot of nice pointers. Just to add to his, you could mix up a weaker soloution epsom and foliar feed her. This way you can see if lack of magnesium is the thing or not before you start adding more salts in that container :)

The soil he uses has enough ferts for 6 months according to the label. Adding more nutes to the soil might burn the plant further if the rootball is small and cant support heavy feedings. Might be the extra nutrients you added is locking out some of the nutrients but to know the answer to this we need to know exactly what is in that soil. This will narrow down what the actual problem is.

Seems like there is a lack of magnesium as poweredbylove said, but with fertilizer lasting 6 months who knows how hot the soil is. The label only mentions the big three N.P.K values and none of the rest.

@poweredbylove Have you used the miracle gro moisture control before if so did you find it hot? Wondering since u tried their all purpose plant food. I have not used it, but by the labeling i 100% agree with you that magnesium is needed with that food. But the question remains, is the soil ammended with magnesium to begin with? If thats the case, he might be having a lockout problem .

nope neither the soil nor the ferts have magnesium. i dunno how they manage...

trying to find an old pic from back in those days,

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=53392

couldn't find any pics on my hard drive but this thread shows off some of the too much nitrogen associated with Mg soil and ferts.

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=96571

heres a thread i made trying to figure out my mag def. miracle gro soil, prolly last time i ever used it, and miracle gro food.
