HELP! Sandy spots GG style....

Hi,

So i have a problem, i have a very nice GG spot but under 15-20cm of nice soil there's a damn pure fine sand... And i'm at 59N lat.

What do you guys think of that? Any good to grow there or not?

I had my peat mixed up already so i filled the holes with peat and some ferts.

So will this sand make my girls thirsty?

How to make my peat mix better ?

Will sand make it dry out fast..?

Any info and advice is more than welcome!

sand can assist in drainage from my understanding..
it is also to my understanding that nutrients can easily be leached out of sandy soils..
Adding organic matter will help prevent the leaching.

If you mix the sand 50/50 compost to sand that would increase the organic matter. What is the pH of the sand?

I dont know the ph, but its supposed to neutral almost everywhere around here.. But i think its slightly acid..

I will test it soon..


But what do you guys think about this product...? Stockosorb 660

I'm in the same situation. I just mixed the top soil about 50/50 with sand. Added a little lime and a handful of fertilizer. I was glad to see sand instead of clay. But I guess we will see how it works out in the next couple months.

I tested my sand/native soil mix with a basic macro nutrient test kit. I was surprised to find sufficient-surplus amounts of phosphorus (p) and potash (k) but very low in nitrogen. I am changing from a mixed fertilizer to nitrogen only. Blood meal in my case. Check your sand/soil you may be surprised as well.

Hai hai!

I already filled the holes with some peat and added some chicken shit&seaweed pellets and some horse shit pellets as well...
So the mix should be fertile enough, but my only worry is that it may dry out quickly...
So now i have ordered some water retaining gel stockosorb 660 Add 5g of this gel to half of the holes, just to see if it makes any difference.. Amazing stuff it is, you can check vids in youtube..
