Help! Never cloned before!

Hey, if anybody can help, it would be much appreciated!!!

So, I was pruning my revegg because some of the old buds on the plant just died and didn't grow new shoots. But there was this one that looked like it wasn't growing anything and well it really was, but I didn't find out until after I cut the bud off. :spank:

Now my problem is I don't know anything about cloning!

Can I put this in the frig inside a ziplock with a wet paper towel around the stem until tomorrow when I can pick up some root hormone????????????????????????????????????????? I would love a clone of this plant anyways!

I heard that root hormone is only good for like the first 60 secs after a fresh cut, that's what the guy at the hydro store said anyways.

I also read somewhere on icmag that clone/cuts can stay in a state of stasis in your frig for a couple months????????????????????????????????????

Someone please answer soon!
THANK YOU,

It's at the top of this page.

Here is my suggestion. If you just harvested and are in the process of revegging, you might better reveg the plant and then cut your clones. You may very well have a low percentage of success and it could take a period of time longer to root. Cloning works best with a well saturated, healthy plant. When you reveg, you are basically bringing the plant back from the dead, lol.......

My suggeston would be to pm Stoner133 and ask him if he will explain revegging to you. He does it often with a good success rate.

Hey JJ,
Thanks for noticing my thread!

Unfortunately I did cut off a very healthy new branch right near the top. It has two nodes and about 10 nice little leaves. It has been revegging for about 5 weeks now. So there seems to be a lot of new leaves, but this was one of the best branches I cut.

I took a piece of paper towel and wetted it and wrapped the base of the cut, then I put it in a ziploc with a few sprays of water for extra moisture. Now it is sitting in the fruit drawer at the bottom of my frig. I will pick up some cloing hormone in the morning.

Do you think it has a chance? Should I put it in the frig at all?

Do I get cloning powder or gel? Is there a better brand than others, or for beginners?

Thanks,

I like Olivia's gel myself, many others prefer clonex.Remember the most important aspect of rooting a cut is a high relatyive humidity for the first 7-10 days.I prefer a misted dome but whatever you choose, high RH is a must. When your node revegges and it will because you'll make sure of it,there will be funky pistilly growth at first, then it should resume normal growth. When you take cuts from this plant for moms or perpetual grows, takr cuts with zero or few pistils if possible. You want your cuts pistil free so the energy during veg goes into producing foliage, not pistils.

If you took a whole branch, you can always make a second cut. I've actually taken some off branches that sat in a black trash bag with waste cuttings for a day or two. I assume the high moisture in the bag kept it going long enough.

i got some cheap shultz cloning powder and 8 days later with a dome in straight soil i got roots...the dome was very low tech

Thank You guys,

I appreciate the responses!!!

I was in the hydro shop last week and they had like 5 or 6 different brands all prices were under 15 bucks, so I am headed there in a little bit to get something to clone w/.

Powder works and gel works, IS one easier than the other???

The Hydro shop also had some little soil plugs for 6 bucks in some wet ziploc bags. I think is was a dozen for that price. GOOD IDEA OR BAD IDEA??? I only need a couple, guy said they last forever in the ziplock.

PEACE,

Gel or powder both are fine, whats more important is being careful it stays on when placed in the cube/medium.I always cut the bottom at a sharp angle and scarify or remove some outer coating about the length of what you place into the cube.

clone bubbler

easy list of part needed

1 gal rubbermaid 2.50$
1 small fish tak air pump 6.00$
few ft of 1/4inch air line 3.00$
4 small air stones .89 cent a 2pk
4 ea 1/4inch T's 1.00$

i drilled 15 evenly spaced 1/2inch holes in lid and use stryofoam to hold cuts in place.
i took 1 T pushed it through the lid cap off 1 end on outside of lid.
take 1 peice of 1/4 hose length to mid of rubbermaid place another T cut 2 more peices of hos to bring it to sides of rubbermaid use another T each side cut 4 peices of hose and finish the air lines hook air stones to the lines put your water mix into the rubbermaid. plug in the air pump whalla i get 99-100% sucess with this setup even if the cut was taken during flower and small buds show during rootn they still root. i've been in my new house little over 1 month in this time i've managed to root 49 clones sucessfully.

i cut dip into clonex then into the bubbler with my magic potion for rootn lol

I had no idea how to clone until I found JJ's thread. That man knows his shit, I would recommend that thread to anyone. I clone now at about 80% success rate

The wierdest thing......I thought i made a post in here.....
its gone.......anyways

I,m also doing the bubble cloner.....works great...
I used to get root-rot with the soil.......

and i dont use cloning powder , i used them on the Swazi....got some clones but the WW didnt like it at all

just water and bubbles..

btw.....my clones/cutting are loosing some green colour round about day 7..
but seem to come right when they go in soil again

anything i can do to prevent it...????

do second 45' cut below the node....UNDER WATER........!!!!
make another slit lenghtwise (about 5mm)and insert into water

JJ's thread is informative, but he makes that cloning out to be some kind of surgical operation; when in all truth, scarification, rooting hormone, and some of the sterile prep is unnecessary.

I like Pontiac's thread on wick cloning because that shit is simple. No pumps, airstones, or electricity required...just set it and forget it.

I prepped my scissors with alcohol, made all of my cuts at once, and stuck the clones right in the wick cloner. I got these roots after a week or two of them just hanging out near the windowsill.

We had great success with a gro clone cloning machine...basically a commercial version of Maj.potheads homemade rig...

So true.........!!!!....Rather sped a few minutes cleaning and prepping...

I,d rather give extra attention on the cutting a and cleaning than loose 2 wks of waiting and have plants dying on me...

prevention is better than cure

Thanx for the valueable tips and info.....

you made my life much easier...!!!!!!!!!
and saving me $$$

I said 'some' of the sterile prep is unnecessary, not all of it.

Scarification isn't directly related to your post, but it's another method that gets much publicity for no good reason...

I guess the point I was trying to make is that the beginner (and I say that having read your thread to learn how to clone, in addition to many others...) is usually fooled into taking unnecessary steps, such as the rooting hormone or building a bubble cloner, when the process is actually much simpler once you remove people's personal biases.

Besides, JJ, you're the one with the sticky thread, not I. I do not claim to know it all, I'm simply showing a bare bones spin on the technique that works for me...

its all good....

Cloning was just a very important step for me...
after 3 failed attempt cloning the WW...(Swazi cloned easier btw...)
I was gettin worried that i had to 12/12 the only 5 WW i got.....and no next generation..

So...personaly i tried every safety measure to secure a succesfull clone...

basicly.........I,m glad i followed the 'too' clinical route...

3 wks and i havent had 1 plant dying on me.......
