These are 2 clones I recived last year from swear's Purple Kush and Gbum. They have been in fox farm soil sense 12-28-06. I have been watering them with water/liquid karama as needed. As well as giving them a flush every month. I noticed last week a few (2-3) leaves on each plant starting to become yellow. I would like to keep these strains i have they are both phenomenal phenos. Any help on keeping them around for years to come. here are some pics, what do you guys thinks going on?

Most of the pics look like normal dying older leaves to me. Older plants yellow and drop older lower leaves that arent getting much light. Is new growth looking good? If so, I wouldnt worry about it. If it's new growth toward the top of the plant then it's something else.

As for keeping them manageable, Id just trim branches that arent growing much or remove some fan leaves gradually if she is getting too bushy. Putting them under CFLs will slow down the growth while keeping them alive too.

I would give em Sensizyme every once in a while to - dissolves the old roots, giving new roots food and room to grow. If I find a mom struggling hardcore, I take assloads of cuttings and keep the most vigorous as a new mom. So far no genetic drift after a couple generations. After hundreds, I've seen a decrease in yield.

ItsGrowTime:
Ya I do believe it is older leaves and there is a lot of new growth starting off at the top.

And the 2 moms are under (2) CFL 20w. And seem to be doing well.

strainwhore:
Is this what you are talking about.

and when you say "every once in a while" how offten is that. Ya i have been choping them down when the cab does start to get a little to crouded.

LOL, spelt it wrong, Bonsai. Sorry bout that.
Look in the Growers Forum.
It's under the Indoor Grows - Soil, and is a sticky at the top of the page.
I've been using this method for about 2 years now with great success. Very simple, but imtinidating the first time you take a knife to the root ball. But it works like a charm. Let me get a pic of one I've had for the past year. Be right back.

They need some nutes...LK is an additive and not intended to be used as a primary nute source.

Some grow big (soil version) at around 5-8ml/gal and a little CalMag (3-4ml/gal) should stop the progression of the yellowing within a week...keep using the LK at around 5-10ml/gal as well.

I'll hit em with Sensi every month or two at full strength along with half strength PBP Grow. Or you can hit em when they start to yellow, it greens em right up as they use up the dead roots as nutrients. Sensizyme works wonders compared to Hygrozyme.

resinryder: thx for the pics and showing me the where the Bonsai mums where ha. Planning on cutting mine back right now just wanted to get some ideas on how many "main frame" braches to keep. Let me know what ya think

Sandman: I took the pH of my run off and it is around 6. When do you (how offten or when), and what do you use to "flush" your plants? Straight water 7ph? water with LK?

strainwhore: Gonna go and grab some Sensizym. and wroking on making my moms bansai's.

HERES the moms

1st Purple Kush MOMs
the shoots (branches coming off the main one) are stagered. 23"

2nd Gbum from Head seed (sour buble x G13)
Branches on this one are more cup shape all coming from the bottom of the plant. 22"

let me know what you guys think I should do to get these Bonsai these moms.

I don't "flush"...there's really no need to unless you have nute ODs IME.

if your stems are woody and redish they are prob getting root bound, i use sorta the bonsai method but instead of cutting the root ball which ive had a little bad luck with, i just gently remove the rootball with fingers like combing out natted hair, making sure not to leave tomany little roots in the pile of dirt left behind, break it up then put new fresh soil in the same pot if thats what you want to do. then water real good, and put under light, youl notice big differance quick, works great when you need softstem clones quick
