Help! Med Room Design

Hey all, we are in the design stages of building our own Indoor room. I have little experience with Indoor on this scale. I am an outdoor grower and prefer it over indoor, but I would love to try my hand at this very stable and forgiving environment.

The room will be approximately 12 x 12 x 10 with either a split or separate 1/4 or 1/3 size veg room. I understand that cheaping out on lights/gear is not the most efficient or costly thing to do in the long run, but having said that I don't want to be into this more than I would like.

I'm also wondering how what kinds of ballasts, MH/HPS lights to use and where to buy them. Aswell as carbon filters and air exchange units.

What type of material is used to block light leaks?
How many lights can I get away with 4-6?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Buy quality and you'll always thank yourself. Lower budget? Get fewer lights to start with and you'll be saving money. Cheaper lights run hotter and suck more juice... costing you more money and hassle in the long run.

Quality mag ballasts will treat you right, if you treat them right. Change the cap every few years, don't leave skin-oils on the lamps, change your lamps at 6 months or so (depending on the quality of the lamp) and use an extra fan to keep it cool.

Mag ballasts don't go "POP" in the night without warning. :)

Panda plastic is your friend. 2"x2" wood lengths and corner brackets make a nice frame, quickly and inexpensively... don't hang your lights/scrubber from it though. :D

600's will be more efficient over the long haul... :)

panda poly will give you a way to inexpensively separate two growing areas and prevent light leaks. You very well could fit six lights in that room for bloom but if you don't have experience you are asking for failure. I would recommend starting with 1-2 1Kw bulbs for bloom and no more until you learn about controlling your atmosphere(humidity, temperatures and CO2.)

well, I like the idea of two different flower rooms, one for the 70 day stuff and the other for the 120 day stuff. With a 10' ceiling a room dedicated to the tall hazes is feasible, well...11' might be better.

So, section off say, 5.5'x12' for the two flower rooms. Use the other half for veg/lung/mechanicals/dry/cure. I prefer keeping things that emit mechanical noise such as dehumidifiers out of the flower room and use active ventilation to pipe moisture out. An air conditioner cant be helped sometimes, so keep that in mind, the flower rooms may need to be zoned.
