How's it growin?
Im about to start a project and I was hoping you guys could help me out. Im trying to setup the best high output flower room I can, with the space I have. Im using a 10x10 room, with a window attached, also has vaulted ceilings with the highest point being around 13 feet . I was thinking about running 2ks on light movers, with half hydro bubblers and half organic soil just until I figure out what works best with the strains Im going to use. Right now Im using Nirvanas Pure Power plant clones, but have Federations ISS, Dr. Atomics Shiva, Joey weeds Ak99 & Apollo 99, as well as some others in bean form. Smell is a big issue so, Im going to need some odor control. I have a vapor tech, but I dont think thats enough.
Should I do a sealed room?
Intake through the window, exhaust through the wall?
Co2?
What nutes should I use for hydro and organic? I was thinking pbp for organic and Floranova for hydro.

Any suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

You really need to keyword your questions into the search engine at the top right of this page as the answers are already there and the manner of grow is, after all, your decision to make.

There are as many opinions/answers to your Q's as there are members in the forums as I am sure you are aware of, your having been an IC member since 4/2005.

You know what to do,

Happy growing

2k in the space you have whether vented or not will require AC in the summer trust me on this.Co2 is nice but its n ot a need. Its all in what you want really you can cool a room with a 12k window ac no problem but they are expensive to run full time.In and outs are less expensive but an ideal ventilation system takes planning alotta questions need answering first like where will the intake air be coming in from?At what temps?Where will you push the air?Is it a secure area?Maybe consider going 600s if you could for the lumen output the are the most efficent HID you can get.Are the ballasts digi or magnetic if yer goin ol school ballast storage is also a key factor a seperate cooled area to store them is nice but not always possible.Well now I bet Ive got your wheels turning.Oh and another big factor....HUMIDITY!!!Hehe..Best of luck my friend if you wanna brain to pick feel free to PM me.Peace!

I'd say go for something like a stadium like in Northern Farmer's thread. Check it out.
Most bang for your buck.

I was thinking about using air cooled lights, and using an intake, the air for both being pulled from the window . Its winter here so the air temp will be cold, when summer approaches though I will get an Ac unit. Where to vent is something I was wondering, security is a BIG priority, so it cant smell outside. I was thinking of just exausting through the wall into the main part of the house via a can filter I already have a 1k watt and was considering getting a 600, but figured another 1k would be better, as long as the temps wouldnt be a problem, both old school not digi. There is a closet in the room where I was thinking of keeping the ballasts, but it wont be cooled. The humidity will be kept in check with the ventilation, hopefully. Oh yea, Im going to be using a dedicated line for each 1k watt, dont want any electrical problems or fires.
I really have a lot of reading and planning to do. I just started this thread to see if some people would throw me some ideas, cause really Im a noob when it comes to setting up rooms.
Thanks for your help groomer, any more insight from you or anybody else would be great.

you need to build cabinets. you need to be able to contain the heat from your lamps, and you need to have a sealed area to contain the odor.

does your grow space have central ac already? if so , you should be able to pull cool air from near a vent.....2000watts will cook a lot of heat you need to remove that from your area.

why would you dedicate one line only to each 1000 watt? if you are setting up new circuits, why not just run 30 amp circuit to room instead of two 15s? if you are running wire, I promise it is easier to do less than more.....I am no sparky, but have a bit of experience.

depending on temps, you may want to introduce co2 for flowering, if too high you must.

just some thoughts.

my true advice, get some plants in the dirt, and see what happens. get that 1000 up and burning.

Cabinets for 2 1000 watts? As far as the heat from the lamps, I was going to use air cooled lights.
The room does have central AC, but I was going to just pull air from outside, which will be plenty cold . Im not against having a sealed room with a portable ac unit, which was what I was going to do at first, but I just figured I could just do the intake/exhaust thing with a carbon filter to take care of the smell.
30 amp line would be a much better idea, I dont have any experience with that stuff, but luckily my buddy is an electrician.
Thanks for your help

I think you have an idea that will work. Just vent into the next room through a carbon scrubber and use the outside air to cool the room since it is winter. You will have to make sure you seal the room good (semi-sealed) and have the intake for the cold air fan half the strength of the carbon scrubber fan. This way a vaccum will be created making the only escaped air through the carbon scrubber. If you have a return vent in the grow room be sure to block it off. Better yet, relocate it into the next room where the carbon scrubbed air is exausted to. This way only carbon scrubbed air is recirculated through the home. One thing you overlooked is you will NEED a dehumidifier. Without it all that humid air will be circulating through the house and you will have a problem with fogged up windows. Also, this is a good way to ruin your home and cause black mold problems. Black mold can be deadly.

I know this will work because it is the exact set up I have been fine tuning this year. I have 4 - 1000 watt HPS going and they are not even air cooled and it all works perfectly. With the lights air cooled you won't need to have as large of a fan for intake air as I have. In the summer months I just had a passive intake from the next room instead of outside and had the room cooled with my central air unit. Now that it was winter I plugged up the air conditioner vent and pull in air from outside just like you stated. You will need air when summer comes, but during winter your setup you described will work great.

One things that is very important is to remember that you need excellent air flow in the room and make sure you use an extra large carbon scrubber. With my set up that is all I did and I have absolutely no problem with smell, and my strain is pretty stinky.

Another thing you might want to consider is to use two dehumidifiers. I found with the four lights and the amount of plants I was growing I needed two, one in the room running non-stop and one up stairs. The upstairs one was mainly to prevent fogged windows which is a tell-tail sign of a grow-op and happens the most in winter.

Hope this helps and if you need anymore info on my setup let me know. I would be glad to help you out.

Great info TGT, much appreciated. What kind of dehumidifiers do you use, I had one but it generated too much heat to be practical.
I might need some help with some bumps on down the road when Im actually setting it up, so I will let you know.
Thanks again
