I have about ~150 to spend, but would like to keep it around ~$100. most importantly i want to be able to take well detailed pics of my plants and end product, but it will also have to endur the road trips and everyday life.

what do you heads suggest?

Hows the hunt going? That e900 is a nice camera. The large aperture means good low-light capabilities. Ive never owned a Fujifilm so I cant say much about the company. I dont think youll find that one for $100 new, unfortunately theyre running about $300+. Maybe eBay?

IMO small aperture is more desirable for our uses because it allows better depth of focus and longer exposures under bright pulsing artificial light. My camera only goes to F-8 my old 35mm could go to like F16 IIRC.

walmart has 5 megapixel for under 150$ I think its a HP brand camera.5 megaqpixel for under 150$ isnt bad. Its only 100$ and they got memory cards for cheap. the 1gb card is like 40 bucks!! cheap cheap.

The Konica Minolta Dimage Z10 is what I'm using now and it's the best camera i've ever owned.

If you want a pocket camera (you won't get anything else for 100-150$) with good macro capacity for plant and budshots, there's no better option than the Ricoh Caplio series. It beats all competitors hands down, you can bring the lens as close as 1 cm, whereas the best Canon, Nikon and Sony models can't go closer than 3 cm. It's more or less minimum distance, any closer than that the lens will cast a shade on the object.

Those ricohs are nice, but I have to disagree about the 3cm practical limit. My canon can focus down to 1cm. Looking at the test images on that site i posted it looks like the ricoh lens casts a shadow just like any camera would.

What stops me from recommending my camera (canon a610) is software annoyances.

Yes, those canons are nice machines, didn't know they could go that close with their zoom lenses. The thing with the ricohs is they have intentionally tried to build the best compact macro camera possible, and they more or less made it. When I saw the first pictures taken with the Caplio in OG:s Plant and Budshots forum it took the breath out of me. Every trichome on the buds seemed to have it's own characteristics. And it was only the 2.5 mil mega pixel model...
