Ive got given a really nice white russain male and would like to cross it with my nebulas and ice plants but have no clue how to go about it
when to collect pollen how to store it when apply the pollen ect can you more knowlageble breeders help me out
cheers
The best way to collect pollen is to put the male in a seperate room under a flouro or in a window so it's away from any females.Once males start flowering they can be under any light regimen and they still will produce pollen. Once pollen sacs explode you will see the the gold dust (pollen). Collect it and put it in a film canister or anything that is sealable. If you don't plan on using it for awhile then put it in the fridge until use. Toss the male. Now it comes to time to flower you ladies. I don't know if you have already but when you do the best way to make seeds is to pollinate a single bud or two at the bottom of the plant. This is usually done at around week 3-4 of flowering for best results. Make sure you let the pollen sit out for awhile so it gets back to room temperature. Once you pollinate the pistols will dry up withing a few days and will start producing seeds. It's also a good idea to spray down anywhere else with water besides where you pollinated to assure that any other buds aren't pollinated. The water will make the pollen unviable. Now you continue to flower your plants and within 4-6 weeks your seeds will be ripe. Seeds are ripe when they are dark in color. Sometimes you got to harvest the rest of the plant and let the pollinated bud stay in flowring for another week or two to assure seeds ripen. Once they are ripe then simply collect the seeds and let them dry for a few weeks. Now you got your cross. Seeds are viable and will sprout quickly but it's best to wait a few months before you plant them.
continue to flower out your male so the balls look good sized...then take cuts of the pollen sack stems and place in a small vase with water. put a clean sheet of tinfoil under it and let the sacks drop their pollen on the foil away from your females.
now when ya got a nice line of pollen(you'll see what i mean).. get yourself a couple few sandwich baggies and rub them together in your hand real fast to get rid of the cling of a "new" baggie. put a adequate amount of pollen in a baggie and then put that baggie over the buds of your choice to be pollenated and gently rub the bud to spread the pollen...now simply leave the baggie over the individual bud for an hour or so....this can be done on a few bud sites with individual baggies. if ya do 5 bud sites ya need 5 baggies know what i mean...
leaving the baggies on the budsites for an hr or so prevents cross contamination to say..females you dont want seeded...
