Help Me Help My MOM!!!

My Mom is dying :badday:

The strain is Apollo 11, I've never taken clones off of it. It's about 3 months old, it's been demonstrating slow growth for awhile (about a month and a half). PH is good, runoff is 6.5. It's in FFOF soil with about 15% perlite added. I water every 3-4 days. Temps stay around 83-85. I don't fertilize often, I've only fertilized 3-4 times in the 3 months it's been alive. Fed FloraNova Grow & Diamond Nectar, around 600 ppms. I was thinking there was enough in the soil to help it, but I may be mistaken. I've got 2-27 watt daylight CFLs and 1-23 watt warm white CFL in the cab for lighting. A small 6" Air King fan moves the air. 3-2" holes in the back wall for ventilation, 3-2" holes let air out through the ceiling. I have vegged several clones & seedlings in here without incident. PLEASE HELP!!!

I am sure you'll get some opinions from more experienced hands in here but here's my take...

I've realized with Moms that they seem to suffer after a few months and get all locked out as the soil gets compacted and salty. In most cases a really good flush with some water then let them drain real good. A day or two later, a good shot of veg nutes and Cal Mag, also some superthrive and they bounce right back.

What do your roots look like? Is she rootbound. Usually if the above helps them bounce back after a watering or two I'll take some of the rootmass off and repot with fresh soil then they go nuts.

Def not root bound, I do believe Whodi is correct and it needs some Nitrogen (especially because of the red stems). I will feed and give updates. THANKS ALL!!!

Red stems are a nitrogen deficiency, it also makes sense because I haven't fed it very much and the leaves are yellowing and dying. I gave it 600 ppms of FloraNova Grow and a little bit of Diamond Nectar yesterday, I'll post progress tomorrow. Thanks again for everyone's suggestions, I really don't want to lose this strain/pheno!

1) Remove all the dead and infected foliage... this will help the plant generate some new growth and side branches.

2) Re-pot into a larger container of fresh soil and water less.

3) If growth is still slow then perhaps apply some nitrozime / sea weed spray to promote vitality until overall health increases.

Hope this helps

From the Sick guide

"Sometimes the stems can be red, along with red petioles that can happen when having a Phosphorus deficiency. This isn’t a sure sure sign of you having one though, but can be a sign. Some strains just show the red petioles and stems from its genes."

One of my moms also had red stems and when I feed her some P, went away and bounced back but its seems your plants needs both N+P, and why not some K.

Oooh, thanks Overmind. I stand corrected :respect: I think the FloraNova Grow will work, it's 7-4-10. Thanks also to the DOC; I removed dead foliage and this evening I will pot into a larger container. I will monitor the plant and post results!

No problem, that fert should work

A11 surprising uses a lot of P during veg, my mother has run into P def twice already

Post pics for updates when she hopefully recovers

i'll just let you know what works for me,
but it may not work for everyone..

for my tiny bonsai moms ... i just use osmocote 14-14-14 extended time release pellets (the veggie/flower version) - they last for 4 months of nutrients, and i just water with tap each week.. i sprinkle one teaspoon of the granules over the top of a 5-6 inch pot just once in a few weeks after its been potted up. if possible, i'd cover the granules with a small layer of new soil. it usually lasts longer then 4 months ... by 7 or 8 months i'm ready to take new cuttings to refresh the mom and start her again. but i've had them go over a year .. and if i ever notice growth is slowing down, i'd hit them with another tsp of the osmocote (usually 6 months+ into it)

i always do a flush/watering every 4-5 days, EVERYTIME. i bring the tiny bonsai mom to the sink, and dump 3 or so red solo cups of tap water thru it each time, give it a haircut, and put it back to keep it always at 5-6 inches tall max. if you clip down a branch, always leave 1 small leaf on it, so it comes back or splits into two.

by the time it comes back to the sink a week later, the new growth is chopped again, and flush/watered again. and put back.

if that apollo was one of my moms ->

i'd cut off all the dead yellow leaves,
cut the thing in half, right at the mid point
cut off all the yellow tips ..
pour 4+ solo cups of water thru it to flush everything out of it,
put a tsp of the osmocote, cover granules w/dirt..
water once more w/solo cup of water .. to wash the osmocote into the soil,
and i'd expect all new fresh growth on it by next week or so

..if it doesn't respond to that i'd look to trying to get a new clone going somehow, and refresh it..but i've never had that problem..

whenever you want cutting from it, just don't give it a haircut for a couple weeks ..

i know some may not agree with this method, but it does work, and i hate mixing nutrients and stuff..mad scientist .. just one more thing to do..if you know what i mean. anything to make it as simple a process .. water and put back what more could you ask for .. if for any reason you wanted to take the osmocote out, just scoop up the top layer of soil, but why bother its a mom, extended release is fine, you're not going to smoke it, and if you get around to flowering it, just time it so the life of the osmocote is tapped out.

i tried the 9 month time release dynamite stuff, wasn't impressed with it, and noticed some burn - went back to the osmocote flower/veg 14/14/14.

edit: you can buy the osmocote at like home depot garden dept, etc.

Tb4u,FFOF Is plenty good enough to keep a Mom happy for at least 6mos.
As DocLeaf said just trim the bad stuff(I use my small trim scissors, cleaned with Iso).
It looks like ya got about 1Gal soil there, that should be good for another few mos.,but I'd get it into a container that is'nt clear.
Generaly roots dont care for light exposure.
A seaweed,or kelp foliar spray will help with the stress of trimming.
You should foliar feed periodicaly, aswell.(foliar feed just after lights out).
Your Mom realy is'nt that bad.
If you folow Doc's & my advise she'll be resdy to clone in a matter of wks.
If you bend her over & tie her down those small side branch's will become tops(more clone matirial) this will help to keep her short.
Good to see ya around,Bro!!!

Your temps are too high for a mom plant. Trim her up, train her better, and get the temps down. A mild fertilizer as suggested above is also a good plan.
