How tall should it be???
in the pic is the basic idea.(more pics in the gallery) I plan to use reg. window screen on both sides of the wood. That leaves about 1/2 inch thickness for the carbon. Just not sure how much carbon I'm gonna need.

  • 400 HPS w/ cool tube
  • room is 4x6x8
  • scrubber is 10 x 10 x ???
  • Hopefully about 6 big flowering girls

I like the concept, let me stare at the pic for awhile and see what I can come up with. Looks like you need help with the actual filter portion of the design.

I assume that's going to be a hollow space between two 1/2 inch layers of charcoal? Anything going in that space?

yes , hollow inside. just one layer of charcoal tho.the 2nd pic in the gallery kinda made it look like two layers(I'm making 2 scrubbers) although perhaps I need two layers:chin: didn't think of that.

I plan to put a layer of screen material on the outside of the frame and another layer of screen on the inside of the frame. then the carbon goes inbetween the 2 layers of screen.

I'd make three of those rings and seperate them with 3 inch gaps. That would give you a total of about 7 1/2 to 8 inches.

I'm not an expert, but I like to tinker...lol.

.....and that's with a half inch bed of charcoal in each of the 3 rings.

uuumm... I was thinkin about 2ft high, but I've never used a scrubber, so I dont know how much carbon I need. Thats a good idea about the third ring, the screen gonna need more suport. I 'm gonna see about getting some fence wire and maybe use that with the screen material.

Sounds cool. I'll be interested in seeing how it works for you. Good luck.

If it's about a 1/2 inch think, I'd go with about 2ft. My scrubber is a lil more than 2 inchs thick for the carbon and the height of a 5 gallon bucket. Don't know if you've gotten your activated carbon, but I'd recommend gettin pellatized carbon. Order it in bulk off the internet; most petsores charge a lot for very little carbon

Check my gallery for more pics.

Thanks Visone, funny you should mention the bucket becouse thats what I kinda went by as for a diagram. I ended up using hardware cloth for support,as the screen material just wasn't workin for me.Then I wraped the screen material around that (since I already had it cut) the I used some nylon netting material around that becouse the carbon was a lot smaller that I previously thought.(aobut 1/2 the size of my fish tank carbon)I should have looked at it first. I did end up makin it 18 inches high only becouse that way I would have exactly enough hardware cloth to finish. It did have a major design flaw(I would tell ya but would really make me look stupid) but I think I got it worked out. I know how not to build the next one.

Thanks for your input Visone, and Elvis too

It's way cheaper/SMARTER to build one. Do a search on OG, they have lot's of ways to make one. I only paid about 50 bucks to make my carbon scrubber, and that includes a 10lb bag of pellitized carbon. Minus the cost of the 170CFM fan, ofcourse.
