I'm looking for help/ideas to build a dry room. I live in the jungle, it rains A LOT..We could have dry weather for days then rain for days. Its hell trying to get a good natural dry here.
So I decided to build a room. Solely dedicated to drying Cannabis..
Im open to all ideas and suggestions as I have never done this before. I honestly don't even know where to start. I have used a dehumidifier and fans before, but they dried the buds too fast. I had the damn thing set on 50% and it ran non stop night and day. Buds were harsh and tasted like shit..
Im looking for ideas :)

If you're in the jungle then I can't imagine not using a dehumidifier, or what seems a good option to me is an A/C unit. The only thing is that you need drying to be around 50%-55%, curing should be 60%-65%. If you can maintain those parameters, along with *some* air movement, you should find good results.

I need to build a drying shed, I've lost my drying and curing area to my husband's home gym.

Aloha SeaMaiden, I see we r in the same boat. I hope this gives you some ideas as well.
As to dehumidifiers, The experience I had was the damn thing put off too much heat. It was like 90-100 degrees in the room, and the machine ran non stop. I had it set to 50% and it never got that low. The buds dried in 3 days and ruined my whole crop, they tasted quick dried.. So I have never used one since.
Fans just blew the moisture around, made the buds dry too quick, again ruining my crop, and wasting my time and money..
It never gets too cold here not much below 70, so heat is a problem. If I could vent the dehumidifier some how, that might bring the temps down and I might have better success, IDK??
Another thing is , we do not have very many choices to choose from equipment wise over here. Its what I can get at Home Depot or Wal Mart or Target. That makes it hard to get something that is efficient and specific for doing this job.

Im thinking of building a 8x10 room with a sealed door to keep the humidity out. Im gonna vent it with my vortex fan, and use my Air Kings to stir the air. I can set the vortex to my speed controller and just keep adjusting it till I get it within range. Im gonna build drying racks, or if I can find em cheap, just buy em. Not sure if this is gonna work, I might need to buy a damn dehumidifier? Anyone have any ideas or thoughts on this ?

What' up JOJO
I use a dehumidifier and it work great. I made my room area and lined it with 6mm plastic taped all seams then dry walled over that then painted high gloss. Foam sealed around door. No air out or in. The dehumidifier has a % on it it goes from 35 to 70% (Homedepot) it has a set up to drain outside. Now it depends you will have to work out % and oh almost forgot just smoked anyway the dehumidifier has a constant setting or 2 hour or 4 hour loop. For me if the room is full and very damp I put it on 35 over night then 50% 2 hour loop couple of days then55. There are many variables. I have some in now for 3 days and leaf steam still bending. After 10 days into the jars. It works good for me and I have some pickie ass friends and they always want to smoke my weed. The only draw back is the Elec $

Oh, that is NOT good. I miss the tropics, really. As you can see, I'm in the mountains, and while it's not always terribly humid or terribly dry, while it's not always terribly hot or terribly cold, we do get extremes.

So, looking at your problem and situation, it really seems to me that if you're going to spend the money on the electricity, just install an air conditioner and kill the two birds with one stone. I know that every AC I've used drips and/or pulls moisture out of the air, though I can't say I know that's part of its purpose. So maybe a portable AC or cheap wall unit will pull just enough moisture out of the air, while simultaneously keeping things cool.

Because of having the luxury of that basement, I've learned that buds taste and cure better if they dry at cooler temperatures over a longer period of time. It's a bit scary at first, but now that I've learned to hold my water it's worth it.

Think an AC might work for you here?

Once all our planting is done I have to hit my husband with the, "Honey..? I need a drying barn" bit. Poor man.

Hey Dirtboy, Im wondering how long do you keep em in the dehumidifier room? And does it get hot in there? Like Sea Maiden said, they taste better with cool temps during drying..That was my issue last time, too damn hot, tasted quick dried even after 1 week of hanging and curing for a month. If i can vent the heat and the water outside the room, I think it might work.

Sea Maiden, thanks for the reply, I feel bad for your husband, I assume he will build the room as well as pay for it :) Good luck may the force be with you :)

JOJO I never put a temp gauge but would guess 75 at it hottest. My room is small 5 x5 x7 and the unit drains outside. It only runs 10 to 15 min then shuts off during the the 2 hour loop then off for 2 hours and back on. I put the machine at 50% for 5 days then 55% for a few more it depends on what the weed is doing. It never taste cooked the opposite very smooth. Hope this helps you.

Old Dry Room

Old Dry Room

Maybe not a solution for the jungle. This dry room was just a frame put together with 2x2s and panda, gorilla taped and stapled on. Carbon filter and fan were just hung with clothesline rope from 2x4s nailed to top of frame and a passive intake at the bottom was created using a basic furnace filter to keep out most of the bad stuff. If I was in the jungle I'd use treated plywood instead of panda film, but then again I'd have no idea on how to control temps in that climate. This dry room was used for 3 years and stayed a steady 73 degrees F and 55% RH in mid-western US climate.
A de-humidifier would raise heat too much and suck a lot of juice, better off just using A/C or central air if you had it. Good Luck. Drying is a very important and sometimes under-emphasized stage.

Peace

Ok, so I built a room. Its plywood and sheetrock. I have a 4" inline fan venting the room with a dehumidifier. We bought a weather station to monitor the temps and the humidity. Its gives a constant readout that we can read from an LCD screen at any location we choose.
The room has a humidity of 50-55% and a temp of 80 degrees on average. The outside world is 85% humidity and 75 degrees.
I can get the humidity pretty stable, its the temps that swing. Low of 79f high of 86f.. I need to drop 10 degrees. What can I do?
