not sure entirely if that is what it is but i need an answer quick! no pictures available sorry guys :wallbash: but it looks like cobwebs on the top of my soil. a light white cottony mix that looks like a light mist, heavier on some plants than others but it seems to be spreading quickly. could this be anything else? potential solutions for the problem? if anyone can even give me a poke in the right direction ill go search like crazy but i need to know what im looking for first >_< thanks everybody! gotta save my clones!! :dueling: die mold die!

Without pictures its hard to know what you're seeing. Hopefully its just a harmless white mold on the soil from keeping the soil too moist all the time (it happens) and hopefully it's not a powdery mildew which would spread onto the plants.

I'd let the soil dry out on the surface and scrape away what you're seeing along with about a half inch or so of soil and dispose of it, top dressing over the surface with some fresh soil....then not water so often.

Pictures would be VERY helpful though if you can get some uploaded.

heya 10K,

nice to see a familiar name from og...I may be completely wrong on this but when flowerindan said cobwebs, like cotton on the soil and on his plants, makes me think he should at least check for spider mites. But if it's a fungus, some Daconil would make quick work of it. But I'll defer to ur better judgement :)

Hi wizberry, you must have misread what he wrote because he didn't say anything about "spider webs on the plants"

unfortunately cant come across a picture of the problem, but there are no visible spider mites on the plants. ive heard if its a basic mold some hydrogen peroxide should do the trick, but i also saw someone say to just mix it into the soil, that its a common problem especially with organic growing and that it shouldnt really hurt the plants. i have been keeping them rather moist lately, gonna let em dry out for a couple days and see if it helps. thanks guys!

I've got a very similar problem...no pictures, but I've got the same cottony white cobweb looking stuff on a few plants now, and the past week or two have had extremely high humidity levels...hoping a few days of some 3-in-1 neem oil products will help eliminate this before it becomes a serious issue. Just hooked up a new 6" carbon scrubber and inline fan to exhaust that nasty stale air, and hope humidity levels go down as well. Is this what would be called powdery mildew? couldn't find pictures to compare too...

if its on the plants..

it's prob spider mites (webs),
scale..or maybe even those little spittle bugz (cotton poofs)..

white milky splotches/cotton like on leaves = the mold you don't want..

if its on the soil only, it's ok!

the soil is alive.. and healthy...it will not harm the plants, and i think actually makes the final budz more potent if you do have it..that kinda fungus/mold will not grow on dead soil.

if it is really making you nervous .. mix 2 parts rubbing alcohol to 10 parts water and mist the top of the soil.

poof..

Sounds like powdery mildew to me... If so, remove heavily effected leaves.. spray with solution of water and 15-20% milk, weekly, until it is gone...

Mine is on both leaves, and buds...they are about 4-5 weeks of flowering, and I hit them with a dose of a 3-in-1 neem oil spray, and will see how they react to that. I will try the milk solution next, and if that don't work I will move onto rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide. Thanks guys

O yah, and by the way, I just had a friend who's been babysitting cuttings for me till they root...completely infected with the worst sludge infested SH*T, and not one rooted, thus killing off my Russian Rocket Fuel clones, and prolly have to revegg my plants:mad::wallbash:...never again will I allow someone with so little knowledge take care of babies again:fsu:

Its probably Powdery Mildew.
Its been so wet this spring/summer in the upper midwest and eastcoast that many people, including me, are getting Powdery Mildew for the first time ever.
I just lost an entire flower room full of plants because I didn't recognize it until it was severe. I found this info that I find to be very helpful:
http://www.ipm.ucdavis.edu/PMG/PESTNOTES/pn7493.html
If you get on top of it right away its managable.
Good luck...
Peace...

if its powder mildew
give the jms stylet-oil a try.
kills on contact, organic/safe. mildew vanish off leaves.

www.stylet-oil.c o m

also kills mites, other bugs, etc

probably not so good near end of flower. sulfer burner in that case, i guess? goes for neem too, leaves bad taste on bud, probably dangerous to inhale..blah.

I agree with 10K and say it sounds like soil mold - harmless.

It also tells me that your air circulation within your growspace is inadequate....if you had good air flow around your plants, you wouldn't get the soil mold.
