HELP I burnt my plant!

Well, hypothetically speaking, I am growing a plant. Germinated the (2)seeds with paper towel method, only 1 seed worked. Planted it in a 6"X6"X6" pot in good quality soil, I forget the brand, and it started growing. I put it under a clip-on shop light that has a metal shade about 8" away. This is the first time I am growing and just wanted to use stuff around the house, don't have a whole lot of money so I am not using any fertilizers or "nutes"? So the light bulb in the shop light is or was a 60w GE Reveal bulb(and it seemed to be growing pretty good, I'm not in a hurry) and I have been reading online about different bulbs mh and floros. so I went to Home Depot to see whats available and decided to get GE Reval 100w bulbs. So i got home put in the new bulb and stupid me did not raise it higher than the 60w. Of course just after i put the new bulb in i serfed the internet for info if anyone else is using that bulb. and after about 20 min. i went to check on it and it had fallen over because of the heat. the seedling is about 3 & 1/2 inches tall and has the first true (serated) leaves and the second pair is just visable. well anyway the heat dryed out the leaves and they curled a little around the edges. i raised the light about a 2 feet from the top of it just so it gets some light for now.

Will it come back or am I just wasting my time. i've been watering it hoping it'll make a come back or is this just naive to think it will?

dont overwater it, just raise the light up, depending on the severity of it is what we need to know, is there anyway you can get a picture of it?

if its just got some curled leaves around the edges and not severly curled it will make it

does it have the 2 small sets of leaves on it? as long as those are not damaged damaged it will be ok, but some people will say toss it and start over
i always say give it a chance to new growers, you got nothing to loose :)

oh yeah i had a fan on it on low but again my stupid self had it not blowing on it but the other way around in the 20min time frame. it would have been a week old since plating today.

the bulb your using is a compact fluro?

actually just did a search, stop using the incadesant bulb thats youer problem!!!! if you did enough reading you should have learned that incadesant bulbs are a no no.......

get some compact fluros, im sure that seedling is toast now :(
incadesant are improper spectrum and produce way to much heat

compat fluros do not produce a lot of heat and are proper spectrum for growing plants, fluro tubes or compact fluros is what you want to use

hi ntg

this time is really the most exciting part of growing

try not to rush things,,, let nature do its thing

the seedling will be growing below ground, as well as above ground during these early stages, so some days there may be little visible growth.

follow the advice given by the good ppl above and have fun

all the best with your grow :D

what i would do if its not toast, i could tell you 100% if i seen the picture, if its not toast, then i would prop the seedling up, and get some better lighting untill it recovered if it ever does, they are like newborn babies at this stage and any stress or trauma can stunt them or kill them

its also important to know what kind of soil your using, you do not want to use a rich soil mixture or you will have burnt them burnt them in a way called fertilizer burn or nutrient burn and then you will stunt them again most likley if it survives, that is if you are using a rich soil mixture

its also good to start them out in cups to prevent overwatering from small seedlings being in bigger pots

good thing because you dont need nutrients untill after 2 weeks with the setup you are planing on using and word to the wise, dont ever listen to the back of the box if you buy your nutrients from local store or hardware store, you will only burn your plants

for first feeding use 1/4 teaspoon per gallon of water and from then on 1/2 teaspoon per gallon untill the plants are at least 5 feet tall and then you can bump it up to 1 teaspoon

just some advice for you to help you get past a few steps most new growers have problems with

my pics should be in my gallery

the soil I am 97% sure it's Scotts Potting soil for seed starting with peat in the bottom of the pot

thanx for your help

i'll get a compact floro when i'm out is there a brand that i should get or certain watts

maybe i'll see if i can get more seeds

another question what is a clone ? is that when you take the seeds from a female that has not been pollinated... like if you buy cheap stuff and there are seeds in it?

That thing is gone. Try try again. Get the florescents like stitch suggested. You will want to keep it just a few inches away from the top.

depening on how many seedlings you start is how many watts you want

why use 100 watts fo one seedling?

use 2 24 watt compact fluros per plant for now

when they get bigger is when the 100 w one will come into better use, right now it would be wasting energy and heat which you dont want

but yes that seedling is done for :( R I P!
If you need help you can feel free to pm me if you have questions im on everyday :)

good luck, sorry about what happend, but hopefully you will learn from mistakes :)

Make sure that the wattages that you are looking at are the actual power consumption...not the equivalent incandescent lighting output. Typically a 27w CFL will be compared to a 100w incandescent...but it's still only a 27w.

hi ntg

a clone is a 'cutting' taken from a plant, and rooted, to make an exact copy of the original plant.

this way ppl can reproduce the same plant (and smoke the same weed) many times, over and over again :D
