Help deciding with scrog design

Hey guys, I'm in the planning phase for my next grow which will be clones from my mother White Russian.

It's a DR150 tent which measures 4'11 x 4'11 x 6'7

I plan on making modular scrogs to which I can rotate to allow more penetration of light. Here is a quick mock up of what the scrog will look like. It's just a photoshopped image of various pics so it isn't real yet so if there is any room for improvement, please let me know as this is my first scrog.

I can't decide on whether or not I have enough room for a 9 plant scrog or just a 4 plant scrog. These will be 5 gallon pots so there will be plenty of room for the root system to grow.

Here are the two designs that I have in mind

Any and all help is appreciated

My hydrohut is the same dimensions as your dr 150. I kept it real simple and built a scrog screen for about 15 bucks. I use 1 gal hempy buckets w/ cocoa. 6 plants usually yield around 12oz's in this set up.

With all due respect to wickedpete, that's not a proper scrog - that's just growing plants up through a screen. With a scrog, the only thing you want growing up from the screen is buds. Just for comparison sake, I get around 3lbs. from an 18 sq.ft. scrog in a cab (Your tent has 24 sq.ft.). What this boils down to is the fewer plants the better. MJ grows like a mofo once you flip it and space to tie down to is at a premium. If you can't tie the plants down properly, the whole scrog thing gets counterproductive.

I don't know how moving the plants will be as far as light distribution is concerned, it'd probably be easier to move the light(s). But it would be a huge blessing where working on the tying is concerned. One of my cabs is 3' deep and it's hard on the back come tying time. Another cab is 4' deep and it's downright agony to reach in there to the back to do the tying.

Good luck with your project. It'll be interesting to see how it all works out for you.

ahhh never thought about making them rectangular. That would be kinda like the advantage of having a larger scrog surface area yet not only have 4 plants.

I'll definitely think about this one. Thanks!

Ok here is what it would look like as a rectangular scrog with six plants

Pharmacan is correct on the scrog. what happened in my case is that these 6 plants were in veg for about 45 days(was waiting for previous grow to finish)and they were a bit over 3' when i put them into flower. i super crop the main stalk to fit under the screen but soon ran out of room.

The concept is still the same though for your set up. I would do 8 plants. 4 in back and 4 in front that should fill the screen nicely and yeild at least 2z's/plant

Pete - I'm getting 8z's per plant. You really should try fewer plants sometime - even if it does seem counter-intuitive.

I don't know that individual rectangular screens are better but I feel a rectangular garden is. Lamps throw precious little light forward or aft, only to the sides. Hanging the lamp perpendicular to the length of your grow allows you to lower the lamp while increasing the footprint.

Yea this is one reason why I mentioned light distribution in my post. I figured the plants on the outside would be getting far less light so the need for rotation would be important. I didn't think about how the light is being restricted relative to the hood itself though so thanks for that info.

I am also looking at the possibility of creating a stadium effect so I can mimic that concave shape that I've read increases light exposure. The problem that I would run in to which running 6 plants with rectangular screens is that I'm not quite sure how to achieve it. Plus I just thought about how much more of a pain in the ass it'll be to rotate them considering there will be only a inches between the entire scrog and the walls so rotating them would require me pulling some out of the tent to achieve this.

The more I think about it, I'm tending more towards the square scrogs so that I can achieve both the stadium effect plus ease of movement within the tent.

With that said, I'm considering going back to the original design of 9 plants and if it's too much, I'll cull some of them. Otherwise, I've always said if you're gonna do it, do it right or don't do it at all ;)
