help choosing inline fan

I'm growing in a 5x5x7.5 grow tent thats inside a 10x10x8 room. I need to ventilate the tent but also need to draw enough air so that when I open up the tent the smell doesn't leak out of my room. I'm using a 1k light air cooled hood and drawing air outside from inside the tent. What size cfm should I be looking at and whats the most quietest fan I can get for that size?

Depends on your climate. I always run 8inch in lines so I can dial the fan down and keep noise to a minimum. Remember you can always lower the speed.

Ok so bigger fans at slower speeds are more quiet? Temps aren't a problem as I can turn on the a/c in the room. Which brands/models are more quiet? How do you turn down the speed?

I have like 5 different inline fans and when I use the fan speed controller to dial them down, every single one of them buzzes except for the vortex. That would be my first choice if you're planning to turn it down and need it quiet.

Also I'm not familiar with the S-line series but I have a max-fan that looks similar and you can't use a normal fan speed controller with those, so I'd just make sure that fan is compatible with them. My max-fan got shelved because I didn't know you can't use a traditional dimmer with it.

Have a look at the phresh hyper fans they are fantastic. They all come with there own varic type fan controller. They do stealth fans also. I have three a 6" and 8" also a 10" stealth.

Td silent is long and heavy 8" will do the job. 19 dba in high speed around 50 sm long and 8 kg heavy. Also have high and low speed so no need controller just two way gang switch. Low speed 17 dba 340 cfm. But td fans is mixed flow fan not centrufugal and I read they need oversized filter. 8" fan with 10 or 12" filter.

I agree on the vortex if you plan on using at lower speeds. Most fans buzz and hum at lower speeds. Otherwise i am looking at the can fan max fan pro series. Its non metal so its supposed to make less noise then a metal housed unit. It also has 3 internal fan speed settings which i think will work better then those aftermarket speed controllers.

1st to ask yourself is Mixed Flow, or centrifugal? They behave differently when pulling, of pushing air through a duct.

2nd how you plan on controlling speed could determine the type of motor, Shaded pole induction motors, Permanent-Split Capacitor...

3rd find a manufacture that fits your criteria, you usually get what you pay for in terms of cfm's, life, and db's.
