help choose which fan for 400 watt cooltube

almost ready to order everything to upgrade my grow. I am going to be ordering the Homebox S (31.5"x31.5"x63") and will be using a 400 watt hps cooltube from htg. I would like to keep noise down to a minimum because this tent will be in a bedroom. i was going to order the 4" or 6" vortex but have read a lot about how loud they are. I have read that elicent inline fans are pretty quiet, anyone have any experience with one of these cooling a 400 watt light. i would probably go with the 6" elicent if i do just to have more cfm's. I have also came across info about some fans from solar and palau inlines, but dont know if these would cool a 400 watt effeciently. heres a link to those fans: http://www.hvacquick.com/spfnconfig.php?fm=td

Thanks for all the great help guys! safe and happy growing!:joint:

forgot to add that i would like to use a carbon filter with this as well if possible, but still not sure how that would work with a cooltube. i would like use a inexpensive one that works well and that i dont have to make myself. so take this into consideration when choosing which fan would be better for this application. thanks again.

Your set-up dictates lots of things.
You should plan on the carbon filter no matter what. If the noise difference of a brand of fan is a make or break situation for your grow, then a carbon filer is an absolute must.
In fact, if your grow is that tight, it need not be a grow. Just my opinion...but if it must be in such a hot environment, then you must spare no expense to make yourself secure.
That includes the investment in knowledge.
Take the fans for example, instead of asking to be spoonfed what fan to buy, figure out that these fan companies give out specifications with their equipment. You can look at the numbers each of them give and discern for yourself if a S&P is on par with any other brand fan of similar size.

In your situation, I would use a small fan to pull air into and out of your light only, and get a decent fan of at least 250cfm to scrub the grow area and exhaust out of the house.
The S&P is a top of the line choice, btw.

i would like to have one fan for my cooltube and exhaust, since im on a budget. I was just asking if anyone has any experience with either of these fans with a 400 watt hps, and which one they thought was the quieter and better fan. Would the S&P be enough to exhaust the light and cab? i would probably go with the 6in fan if i did use if for this. im also open for suggestions about the elicent fan too. thanks.

just make sure the fan is pushing air into the cooltube.
that way the hot air doesnt pass thru the fan.

i thought that inline fans like vortex or elicent fans were made to pull through ducting better than pushing. why would pushing the hot air out be better than pulling it out?

currently im thinking im going to order one of the S&P fans to use for cooltube as well as exhaust the grow room. if i have room in my tent i will put a carbon filter in there, if not i will just have the fan blowing thru the filter outside the tent. i've decided on an S&P fan because ive read a lot about how well they work and seem to be the quiet unlike a lot of other fans.
