i've got a bud rot that seems to be spreading. the buds are big and dense but on two of the girls the hairs havent even started turning red at all. i dont want to cut them down so i have been cutting the rotting parts out as best i can.

I have serenade but i dont want to use it on the buds directly if there is only a few weeks left.

any other suggestions?

i also have these inch worm like caterpillars that are boring into the buds and stems and killing some buds too.

any tips? anything at all?

Thats a typical problem for growers in many regions.... Not a whole lot you can do.... Watch it closely, mold can wipe out a crop quickly..... If its in the tops and not lower in the plant, you could harvest the bad areas of the branches, and leave the rest to mature....

Best solution is to plant more.... :smoke:

You could always bring in natural enemies from your area that eat or parasitize the caterpillars... The caterpillars poop and mess from eating are what leads to the mold usually....

Or order from:

yeah, i have that typical mold problem. i have been trying to control it with products like sm-90 and serenade but i didnt want to use it to close to harvest.

and those caterpillars are causing the same type of mold that i am seeing in areas that had a PM or mold issues before.

What are the thoughts on cutting parts out and putting a little serenade or SM-90 on the buds directly to help control the spread?

How do i make a HIGH PH water treatment?

We're having bud rot issues over here as well as some powdery mildew. Supposedly you can use serenade up until a few days before harvest, and it can be sprayed directly on the bud, i dont think that will help with the bud rot however. We just cut the rot as we see it, we're also trying to let the plants go longer. Calyxes haven't even come close to filling out and trics are somewhat cloudy with a few amber. I think like pipeline said i dont think there is much you can do about bud rot but watch it closely and search the buds for it.

Peace:joint:

i have the same problem ,, its something u need to address early before any buds come on , or u will end up with mould from the caterpiller attacks , and their droppings dont help either ...
i use something called dipel ,,, from what ive read about it , is quite ok to use , and organically based .... get them caterpillers while they are just chewing leaves .... there is a double strength version available too from memory ,, i believe the witholding period was short ,, anyhow might pay to have a bunch on hand for next season ,, if is already too late this run ....

That's funny you asked that! I had a friend back in the '80s who did just that. Claimed "it's like eating the worm in Mescal Taquila". Smoked it in a bong hit, right in front of me, and said it was GREAT! It's a true story. None for me, thanks................RD

So close to harvest I wouldn't spray anything on 'em. I suggest a seek and destroy approach for the caterpillars. Careful visual examination will reveal the folded leaf where the little bugger is hiding, gentle fingers can open the leaf, the caterpillar will either lower itself to the ground or get there with a little flick, you can then wipe the bastard from the face of this earth by pulverizing with a nice big boot.

i think the seek and destroy is my only option for the caterpillars.

i am going to continue to cut the mold out and i want to treat the areas around it with a High PH water foliar spray. i don't live near a grow shop so i think i will have to try a vinegar mixture.

the calyxes haven't even turned 10% red yet so i feel like i need more time.

CAN ANYONE CONFIRM VINEGAR WILL MAKE A PH-UP?

the mold is caused from the trail of munched stem and bud left behind by the CATAPILLERS>>>>
SAFERS CATERPILLER KILLER....is good to us up to 1 week b4 harvest...
perfectly harmless to everthing else but thripes too...its just a bacteria they eat and die...
use it and watch em start falling off within 2-3 days....

REMOVE ALL DAMAGED AREAS>>> to stop the rot...

use the pesticides PREVENTIVLY works best...outdoors you NEED caterpiller killer.period. least round here.

sounds like you have the time to kill em all. HEY thats a killer album<<<<
PEACE.

higher temps and dehumidifiers for the pm...
then you have the perfect spot for mites...
mites mutiply INSANELY in high temps...
something like... 1, will lay 10,000 eggs at 85 degrees.
and 5 at 65.
that goes up tremedously as the temps rise
mites...floramite.

Don't throw the moldy buds away come harvest, you can make brownies from them not to mention iso hash.

you can make bubble hash as well. that is what i am planning on doing with all my moldy catapillar buds. i have a lot this year. when catapillars destroy your buds - make bubblehash.

I can confirm that it WONT.
Vinegar=acetic acid solution= low pH

You could maybe try baking soda or VERY dilute lye for a high pH solution...

HEY JOE,

so i am gonna pick up some SAFERS CATERPILLAR KILLER asap. i think i have enough time to spray the buds before i harvest (only 10% turned red so far). but are you sure that i wont be damaging the delicate calyxes?

thanks in advance,

It's that time of year! First, buy Green Lacewing eggs!!! Then until they arrive, pick the bugs off every day with tweasers. After you attach the Green Lacewing eggs. They will hatch in a few days. The larvae do not have wings. They are called baby alligators - they eat every soft bodied insect on your plant. Start in September and go until Harvest. Since you are late - pick them off every day, twice a day. Look at bud sites first and work your way down. Good luck!!!!

Safers is probably spinosad and it won't hurt your plant, if its anything like jacks spinosad you can smoke that shit dried right on a bud. Spinosad will however kill the bees too...

Those little bastards feed themselves just on fresh trichs. When I cut one with scissors, it's full of pure green liquid. Eating palmful of caterpillars catched before harvest would kick you to heaven :greenstars:
