Help an Outdoor Grower Start a Vert Grow

Howdy all,

I've always been an outdoor grower, but I'm gonna need to get an indoor grow going to make ends meet (this year's outdoor hasn't really taken off because reasons...). I've perused the vert forum a bit in years past, so I have a basic idea of what I'm in for.

I'm going to go with the good ol' KISS approach, mainly because I don't know shit about electricity and don't want cords running all over the place -- I want to keep electrical/fire hazards to a minimum. As far as electrical equipment goes, I figure I'll need:

-lights
-fans (one under each light, plus an exhaust fan with a charcoal filter)
-ballasts to go with the lights
-timers for lights

It's a pretty cool climate so a/c is unnecessary. I also plan on hand watering. Am I missing anything electrical this will be necessary (I also have a vaportek, which is awesome for dealing with smell)?

As far as setup goes, I'm thinking of doing stadium style donuts, if possible. What I envision is a standard donut with a raised ring of plants behind it, making for a second donut (with the plants both raised above the interior donut as well as staggered 'in between' the inside plants). Is this practical? I know there's been some debate about whether stadiums or donuts are better, but I think this is sort of the best of both worlds -- but please let me know if it's a bad idea.

As far as lights go, I remember reading that some people had stadiums with both MH and HPS lights running at the same time (something about different spectrums of light from each being beneficial to plants throughout the entire life cycle). I was thinking of doing the traditional method of MH for veg and HPS for flower -- is that a better idea? Also, given that I want to do two donut rings around each light, I figure 1000w bulbs might be necessary as opposed to 600w to make sure the light really reaches the second ring. Thoughts?
