Hi ppl,
the time has finally come that I need to post a problem on this forum :badday: .

I ususally come here to help ppl out but today I have a problem that is completely new to me and I'm hoping some1 knows what it might be.

Ok, so this plant is in hydro. PH has been a bit high these few days but under control i think. I just recently added quite a bit of cal-mag as this plant was suffering from a calcium deficiency.
Also added alot of nutrients so it might even be a burn. First time trying hydro and so I am a complete newbie on the subject.

I just don't know what this is. Pls some1 help me.
I'm talking about the whitish/yellowish spots on the leaf. Up till now they are only showing on the biggest fan leaf closest to the lamp but I'm afraid it might spread.

Ph is starting to worry me alot. It keeps rising and I'm adding fuckloads of ph down. Think I added 50 drops today...

Maybe you've got salt build-up in the pot(s), medium, etc.
Try giving the system a decent flush or 2. The build-up could
also be the true cause of your plants problem, so give it a shot.

How far from the lights? you said it was the closest leaves to the light. I couldn't tell for sure but it looked like it might be the early signs of heat stress just barely forming at those spots. Did you mist them with lights on recently perhaps? Also the leaf in general seems to be having a reaction to something making it kind of wrinkle like that, what's the humidity and temps like?

Hey ppl, thx for stopping by and trying to help.

I am not worried about the leaf crinkle, that was caused by something else. I am going to measure temps again, although I doubt it is heat burn, but it might be radiant heat burn...

I do not fancy changing the reservoir..... It is less than a week old and is 40 litres worth... Hmm, might have to, lemme just check on my plant and give an update.

ok update:

no way is this heat damage, checked temps and did hand test but have moved lamp further away just in case.

Ph has finally stabilised itself, is still at 6 like yesterday. Am still going to lower it to below 6.

Problem is actually getting worse:

I am now suspecting that this is still a calcium deficiency or whatever deficiency was casuing all the brown spots. I will show previous pictures.

Ay, my poor plant :1help: :wallbash:

What do you think, could this be a calcium deficiency?

I hate this part of the growing process, not knowing what is going on but trying to figure it out frantically.

Apparently too much calcium will show up like a calcium deficiency.
Too much Magnesium will also lock out calcium.

I know I had plenty of Mg in my res before I added the cal-mag. So did I add too much magnesium? Who knows.

I am going to try foliar feeding for the first time in a long time... Grr I am against foliar feeding but running out of options.

Last solution will be to change the res but that will be a drastic step.

OK, so I think I have figured out my problem and I am really pissed off about this.

As you all know, I had a calcium deficiency. So I bought myself some expensive cal-mag. This cal-mag I have now I discovered needs about 1 drop of ph down per ml of solution you add, how alkaline is that?

that created some problems but here comes the annoying part. This stuff sucks.
I discovered that the stuff I bought doesn't mix with water. It has formed a white layer on my reservoir floor and yeah no wonder the problem got worse.

I bought this stuff from Nirvana. Goddammit.

Well the good news is that I think you successfully identified the cause of the problem so fixing it should now be doable.

Imo its overfert + ph is too high. I would be aiming for a 5.4 to 5.8 ph window. Then reconsider dumping your res if its got too much ferts in there.

I think I can finally see some light at the end of the tunnel

Plant seems to be recovering.

Ty for all your help ppl.

My advice: Do not buy cal-mag from nirvana...
