Scientists slowed the talking down and changed the frequency to put it in an audible range since the original sounds are ultra high frequencies that we can not hear normally.

This was proven back in the 1970's, they hooked a lie detector with audio output to plants and did experiments such as chopping up a cabbage next to the plant and noted the sounds produced.
There is a forest where you can listen to the tree's sing which changes according to your mood and also when you play music to them.
