Heightened Threat Levels In Europe

The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent terrorist threats and have raised their security level from "Miffed"
to "Peeved." Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross." Londoners have not been "A Bit Cross" since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies all but ran out.
Terrorists have been re-categorized from "Tiresome" to a "Bloody Nuisance." The last time the British issued a "Bloody Nuisance" warning level was during the great fire of 1666.

Also, the French government announced yesterday that it has raised its terror alert level from "Run" to "Hide." The only two higher levels in France are "Surrender" and "Collaborate." The rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed France's white flag factory, effectively paralyzing the country's military capability.

It's not only the English and French that are on a heightened level of alert. Italy has increased the alert level from "Shout Loudly and Excitedly" to "Elaborate Military Posturing." Two more levels
remain: "Ineffective Combat Operations" and "Change Sides."

The Germans also increased their alert state from "Disdainful Arrogance" to "Dress in Uniform and Sing Marching Songs." They also have two higher levels: "Invade a Neighbor" and "Lose" .

Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual, and the only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels.

The Spanish are all excited to see their new submarines ready to deploy. These beautifully designed subs have glass bottoms so the new Spanish navy can get a really good look at the old Spanish navy

(Please forgive me if anyone finds the above posting offensive.....I am not meaning this as a poke at anyone of any nation....just thought it was funny.)

Some of my favorite France jokes:

Q: Did you hear about the new French tanks?

A: They have 5 gears...4 in reverse, and one forward gear just in case they're attacked from behind.

Q: What do you call 100,000 Frenchmen with their hands up?

A. The French Army

Q: Why do the French keep their trees so well-manicured?

A: So the invading armies can march comfortably in the shade.

Q: Did you hear about France's new weapons contracts?

A: They gave one to Ace Hardware to produce 250,000 wood sticks...they are still looking for a company to produce 250,000 little white flags.

:D

Q:How many French does it take to defend paris?

A:No one knows, it's never been tried.

No but seriously you really do have to hand it to the French...
After all, they won't fight for it.

Q. How many American soldiers does it take to take over your country?

A. None...they just fly by dropping bombs like fuckin' cowards.

That was just for some of the americans who love to talk shit about other countries being yellow.

1939 - 1945

compared with

911

hahahahahahahahahahahahaha

sorry - just no comparison to be made

if only 3000 - 5000 people got blown up and burned to death during a typical night in the Blitz that was a good day

it happens once in the USA .... etc. etc. etc.

I mean of course just who the whinging cowardly fucks are round here is a moot point of course

well sorry fella, but if you can't take it, don't dish it out - in fact I think that pretty much summarises my entire attitude to the topic

I don't see you leaping down the throats of the guys calling the French cowards

French civilian dead - WWII - 270,000

btw - of course I do not find 911 funny

what I do find funny is the precious attitude the US has about it, while being readily prepared to pour scorn on the French and others, countries which have been invaded and bombed in living memory of their inhabitants

people in Europe daily walk through cities which were raised to the ground - whole cities mate, hundreds of thousands of civilian dead across this continent

and you with your two cents potted "history"

you do realise American Independence hinged on French military assistance don't you?

how many French guys do you hear crapping on about that all the time?

hey thank you nagkpa for putting giving back to Ceasar what belongs to Ceasar.

French are not cowards, guys, but they have brain and have used it in order to resist US and not throw themselves into that unlawfull pile of shit which US has created in Iraq. Yeah, we have told US that we wouldn't follow the oil/military corporates lies on destroying a country on baseless accusations and we were very right to do so !

And to all the US people who claim that US came to the rescue of France in WWII and that we should be greatfull to them for that, all I can reply is just " FUCK OFF !". I'll never ever give the slightest thanks to US for "rescuing" France/Europe during WWII, because if all that shit happened it is in large part because some bloody AMERICAN corporates (and I would say the very same old fuckingly bloody family which is putting large parts of the world on rampage nowadays) made it possible, through helping Hitler to access power and secure it and who provided him with loads and loads of steel so they could make the weapons used for Europe invasion.

you do realise American Independence hinged on French military assistance don't you?

My, what a mistake it was to do so !

Irie !

it's a quote from the Gospels - and can be used in everday speech to refer to the exposing of hypocrisy, specifically that which seeks to entrap with falsehood, twist the truth, or impose an ideological perspective

it is also an important line for defining what should be the political limits of the Church (or religion generally) and the religious/ideological limits of the state - or indeed of the limits of institutions generally (inc. religious ones) over the spiritual life of the individual

excuse the purple prose I'm pretty stoned

specifically it has to be understood in the politcal context of the Roman occupation at the time of early Christianity, and the various religious and national groups, radicals v. appeasers - none of whom much liked Jesus ... they were attempting to trap him through his own willingness to speak the truth and say what he thought

the question was - "is it right to pay taxes to Caesar?"
a seeming no win answer for Jesus
so, seeing the double bind the local factions were attempting to trap him with Jesus answered, brilliantly - "Give back to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and to God what belongs to God."

Here you go:

from Matthew 22

15 Then the Pharisees went off and plotted how they might entrap him in speech.

16 They sent their disciples to him, with the Herodians, 10 saying, "Teacher, we know that you are a truthful man and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. And you are not concerned with anyone's opinion, for you do not regard a person's status.

17 Tell us, then, what is your opinion: Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar or not?"

18 Knowing their malice, Jesus said, "Why are you testing me, you hypocrites?

19 Show me the coin that pays the census tax." Then they handed him the Roman coin.

20 He said to them, "Whose image is this and whose inscription?"

21 They replied, "Caesar's." At that he said to them, "Then give back to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God."

22 When they heard this they were amazed, and leaving him they went away.

I'm no Christian, but you have to hand it to Jesus
