I grow out in my garage which is excluded from the house heating and with the cold months coming up i was wondering at what temperture does weed stop growing? Any heating tips either? setups? I was just going to put one of those space heaters out there i mean i could during the day and when i am around but i have heard they are very dangerous to leave running when your not around. Flames+growroom= no good. we are looking at about 40 degress Ferinheit to 60 during the days and between 30 and 40 during the nights during these next months.any help would be much appreciated. thanks :rasta:

your growing in a cab right? slow the intake+exhaust fans down. also running the lights at night will be better as daytime temperature would be higher when the lights are off.

i live in alaska. when in the winter time, during flowering when the lights go off (middle of the day) i run a simple space heater in there that doesnt get too hot, but keeps them warm enough. just set to the opposite schedule.

in fact, it has been getting freezing at night (32f), so i should set mine up soon.

Heating

This is my first grow so i dont have that good of a setup.. I dont have an exhaust or intake of fresh air only fans. And i am growing with t5 flurocent lights, i will swich the the t5 budding spectrum bulbs when they go to flower, so i dont have that much heat coming from my lights. I would run a space heater i am just afraid of the flames. Any other ideas anyone? help would be great thanks :rasta:

A space heater seems to be the obvious solution, but from my camping experience, a campfire will molder and stay hot overnight. There is no wind indoors, but the space heater would be safer even unattended. Just keep it 3 feet away from rags, oil sports and any wood. I would say a coup 60 watt incandescent bulbs, but you need darkness for flowering.

Use a heating pad underneath the pots to warm the roots, that should help considerably.

im thinking space heater on a timer or..... put your pots under a seed/heating mat...
you need to heat the soil more then the air.

i wish i had that type of temp problem, i cant make it 59 but only with 2 ac's :)

in retrospect the mats is a better idea because the heat is lost through touching the surface so heating the air might not help the rootballs could still be suffering at 30 or 40...

Use a radiator style heater, much better in my experience. I used one in each pod last winter (when the pods were just poly walled) and it allowed me to keep things just right.

Plus, there's no exposed elements, and they won't burn your plants.

A radiator and a fan, you'll thank me :D

Nite Tiger has the best idea. Those electric heaters that look like old steam radiators are quite safe and have thermostats on them. And they are not expensive. You may want to partition off the grow with plastic of ANY kind to reduce the space you have to heat. Heating that whole garage is NOT going to work. Just put up a crude stud wall and plastic over it. Make a simple velcro closing flap door. This way you won't be trying to heat the whole garage...which would be ,if not impossible, VERY spendy..

I may not live in Alaska but I do live in Montana. Trust me, I know what cold means too :)

I used to have lizards, I have a couple heating "rocks" that i use, just dont put the pots directly on top of them, it is possible for the plastic to become weak on the heat constantly, a thin piece of tinfoil would dampen the hot spots well enough

If it were me, I'd hookup a used gas furnace to the gas line I'd have a plumber run, set the thermostat and just pay the bill. But that's just me.

Those heating mats, pads, etc. aren't going to be enough for this guys situation. Heating pads made for plants will help keep roots warm, MAYBE, but I doubt it.

If he doesn't heat the grow environment so it stays above 60F give/take, then his plants will be severely damaged or die...no matter how warm the pots and roots are. Those heating mats aren't going to do squat as far as heating the air space. Keep in mind you are constantly changing the air space in there so that new, fresh, and cooler air is always entering the grow.

Just get one of those inexpensive, safe, thermostatic controlled, portable electric radiators. Partition off your grow with plastic(although this may be uneeded if the heater will heat the whole garage space). and get on with your grow :)))

And yeah those heating pads for people aren't what you want. Most have safety cutoffs on them anyway. You can't leave them on.

and im sure as long as the roots are warm you can drop the air heat down to about 50 plus you also have to consider the light will be a heat source so its really only when you need those couple hours off unless you are flowering.

Well I have an uninsulated grow area( which is changing in a few months, custom grow room, I will post pics of the construction), But I live in Canada and weed does not grow well in Canada outside in the winter

So this weekend, I am going to plastic off my main area with vapour barrier type plastic and use a space heater at night. My temps in that room go from about 85 90 to 50 60 overnight, I will let you know how it is working

at your local hydro shop these http://www.nationalgardenwholesale....RO-HEATING-MAT&title=Propagation&type=product mine ran me 20$ us, if you elevate the containers off the ground and use a radiator style heater. the 50-60$ cost is worth it as mentioned no heating coils just heating elements in the unit itself which heats up a oil. they work very nice in a normal sized bedroom. if you elevate the containers and use a radiator style heater you wont regret it if your in a cab in the garage just place the radiator style heater by the fresh air intake for the grow.
