Heating Dry Sieve Hash...

In the past I've pressed my collected trichomes into hash simply by hand. Often times on the net I see interesting pictures of enthusiasts holding a lighter just above a specimen of hashish to get a nice melty photo op and to facilitate pressing. Recently I decided to try this for myself and found it to be much, much easier on my hands - no blisters or calluses. Question: Does anyone think THC molecules vaporize from this practice? I've read all about CBD and other active ingredients in hashish turning psychoactive when heated to a certain degree, but it seems the temperature of the flame from a lighter could be difficult to regulate. What are your thoughts on this?

Yeah there's a definite trick to it. Even with the full melt clear dome heating it with a windproof torch can vaporize off the real volatile componds leaving the thc. Either way a windproof butane lighter gives you quite a bit more control. I've never done it and haven't heard about it in a while but there's also the organic cellophane method where you buy this stuff called organic cellophane wet it wrap the hash in it then wrap the cellophane in aluminum foil then boil the package. There's also the good old fashioned bat pressing which can get the heat up pretty good too. For my personal stash I only press like a gram at a time right before I smoke it. But I'd like to hear about the organic cellophane if anyone has any experiences.

in my opinion ....if loose kif needs to have more than a minute's thumb pressure into your palm to form it into a solid hash or putty then there is way too much non THC vegetative matter in there......though sometimes a little saliva on your thumb or palm will help it form together..I rarely press for more than 20 seconds with strong pressure...I don't like using butane flame as it can impart a petro smell to the hash

really though, if you need to use flame and pressure then you should of stopped dry sifting the material a minute or two earlier ...or you should consider using a gentler action or improved technique ....remove the non resin encrusted leaves beforehand...or use several grades of mesh when kiffing ( eg a 100, then a 120 then card over a 145 mesh)..or do all of the above!

if you are going to use flame ...then use only enough heat to warm the kif then use a thumb pressure to create friction or a heavy weight for a few minutes to help compact it.

but the thing to ask yourself is - why in the first place would you want make a hash that is only as good as ok commercial shit out there?...if the hash is for your own pleasure, then make it AAA grade and smoke the type of quality that zings your brain..then with the de-kiffed plant matter cook or ice hash it to get the other 10~20% of the THC left on

while it's fun to press your own hash from plants you grew yourself ...personally though...I prefer to smoke my kif in it's loose, unpressed form...it smokes cooler, require less flame to get it burning in the pipe, it burns more evenly and the bag seems to last longer (as in goes further) than the same amount that's pressed....

in the Middle East, flame is used to singe off goats hairs and other contaminants before smoking....since my kif contains no goat hairs, I feel it's not necessary.

one thing is for sure a few match heads worth of triple sifted bud kif will get you higher than the same amount of kif mixed in with lots of contaminants.....and should be smoked on special occasions, not as an every hour thing or the effects will not be as "special"

Happy Kiffing!

It's rather ok to apply heat to loose resin, just have to give it the right amount ! I regularly go to Peshawar and overthere used to smoke good stuff from Mazar and Shebarghan. The local way is to "cook" the resin then hand press it. THe heating and pressing makes the smoke much smoother and quick different from the garda (polm).

Actually, it is commong to burn the charas for a more homogenous mix (with tobacco). shape a small flat disk that you put on the wooden tip of a matches then set the stuff afire. let it burn for a few second, best is until it fully melts, turns liquid and fall on the tobacco bed. Cover with tobacco then mix together. Many would think it's ruin the smoke but surely not ! actually, it makes it much tastier and the effect is much stronger as well.

Irie !

I hear you Mriko!...I enjoyed your posts on OG about your travels in Pakistan..
..when are you returning to the home of hashish?..please post pics and words sil vous plait, merci!..

I smoked tobaccy with pot or hash for almost 30 years (just like most of the UK, Europe and the Middle East)..until I got smart and stopped!

Tobacco is only for the nicotine addicted....adding tobac to the pipe or jay doesn't get you higher, actually it makes the high slightly more of a "down" or stone....but many commercially produced hashishes don't burn well by themselves and you need to use lots of butane to smoke it, so I can understand why tobac is used, as it's convenient...but it does help good hash to burn better... I always smoke my unpressed kif straight in the bowl or sprinkled on 100% ganja joints..cos it tastes and burns better!

but ....if you feel the need to smoke grass or hash together with tobacco, for your own health's sake, please smoke the purer, more natural tobaccos (eg Drum etc) that are produced for the roll your own or make your own smoker as they contain far less additives than commercially produced packets of cigarettes, the RYO tobacco is much fresher, tastes better, usually contains less nicotine and more importantly is grown, produced and processed to be smoked without a filter....manufactured cigarette tobacco is stale.

Cancer rates for smokers have increased greatly since manufactured cigarettes were introduced and became popular ( plus added to this increase are increased consumption of processed food, a sedentary lifestyle, TV, stress, chemical ferts etc ).....cancers were not common among roll your own smokers...the "tobacco" used in manufactured cigarettes is full of additives, many of these are known causes of cancer..the paper used is also full of crap too ..basically, most of the major US and UK cig brands sell an inferior mass produced product made from reconstituted tobacco and additives..the most popular cigarette brands are very similar to McDonalds and other mass produced crap ... fresh is better whether you are talking about tobacco or food!....

There is a massive difference between real RYO tobacco and the crap they put into manufactured cigarettes.......Lung cancer rates for RYO smokers are on par or only slightly above those of non-smokers ....that said though, the chances of developing emphasema, mouth cancer and other serious health ailments is greatly increased for all smokers including smokers of the more purer roll your own tobaccos.

yeah to many contams in the kiff for it to be hard to press. Could of been too large a screen size or like was mentioned you sifted too long.
You could always put kief in celophane then wrap in in wet news paper and use an iron or warm skillet to compress it. Does THC vaporize with pressure? Not to my knowledge.
