Heat Wave

I live in the northeast where temps have been hovering around 100 degrees for the past 4 days...i watered 1 out of the 4 (a decent amount). When i went to the spot today, a bunch of the leaves where dead and a few were turning yellow. I was wondering if 4 days of heat like that could do that kind of damage to the plant, or if its some other kind of problem.

You bet Max,

Extreme rise in temps (which for the northeast also includes rise in humidity) can definately lead to death in plants.

100+ degrees (F) is waaay to hot for cannabis plants, unless it is a Sativa Landrace from South America.

I would suggest shading the plants if you can, to help prtect them from teh midday sun, which is what is killing them more than anything.

Just think if you were to sit outside all day in 100+ weather, what would do it in for you? The actual temp or sitting underneath the blairing sun from 11am-2pm getting sunburned beyond belief? That is how your plants feel ! Get them under shade.

that's why when I grow outdoors (not this summer) I growin pots and bury the pots in teh ground, so if they need to be moved, I can.

I'm with JJ, doesn't sound like the heat doing it. Definitely sounds like a nutrient deficiency. Is it primarily the leaves at the bottom doing this?

You may need to water more often
maybe every other day.
your heat is much kinder to plants
than the az heat
our heat drys up plants in hours not days
good luck

we just went through 2 straight weeks of just under or over a hundred everyday. I have a dozen plants of all different strains and none of them have had any adverse problems with heat. I gave them plenty of water and they grew faster then ive ever seen. My plants are right in the ground which is much diff then being in a pot. Have a look for yourself. We had about 3 days break from the heat and were right back in the 90s today.

yes, its the bottom leaves...i have a bag of peters 10-50-10 bloom booster nutrients...is it to early to use that?

Fools! Its been 90 or above for the last few weeks around here, today it got to 97. My plants are having a rough time and im watering them almost daily with about a gallon or more each. even the next day the soil will be dry its rediculous - i have pine straw over it too. We can't really shade them either... kinda shitty o' well.
Peace out,

OG try and give em 2 gallons each if you can...

That 10-50-10 isn't ideal but it's better than nothing. Go ahead and use it. You can add a couple of drops (not too much) of your own urine to your water, it will give them more nitrogen.

If you have a little money to spend...get a fertilizer with equal amounts of N-P-K, i.e., 20-20-20. Use it sparingly. You can get that kinda thing at Walmart or Home Depot real easy. You could even try at the supermarket.

the problem with the heat wave like that (and excuse me for just skimming this thread someone might've said this) and watering your plants so much is unless you have them in full ground soil it will still suffer. you'd have to put them in a semi shaded area or in high enough weeds that the pots were shaded.

the roots need to stay cool is what I'm saying. and thats hard to do when they're not in full ground. they're just in a lil black pot cookin in the sun.

I keep mine in a partly shaded area and keep the pots below the weeds. The soil stays moist when I would go out there assuming it was dry.

Still wish we would get some more rain....

lol, since mine are pretty close to home and we get a lot of rain, this isn't a problem for me right now (thank God)
