Heat Treating for PM 1 week before harvest.

Greetings,

Just saw some PM pop up in my flower room. I am one week from harvest and would like to eliminate this Pm problem. I was thinking about raising the temps up to 100f for an hour. Does anyone have any experience with heat treating in flower?

Thanks!

I always look to grape growers

"Watch the thermometer. Grape researchers have determined that powdery mildew is most likely to become epidemic when temperatures between 70 and 85 degrees are maintained for six hours or more at a time, for three days in a row. Temperatures above 95 degrees for 12 continuous hours will often stop infestations.4 When the weather is mild, which is not uncommon during the mild summers of the Pacific Northwest, many plants will be vulnerable to attack. Stay vigilant!"

Greencure can be used right up until the end, it's just potassium bicarbonate. or baking soda

I am curious if there is any truth to this. I have seen mild PM at high temps, but never outbreaks. All PM outbreaks I have seen, have occurred during 15-29C or about 62-85F.

I would assume, even at high temps the PM is inside the plant ready to flower when temperatures become favorable for PM to create flowers once again.

The other problem with this treatment is, only certain strains will tolerate such extreme temperatures. Lots of Indicas come out like hemp at that high temp.

Still interesting to know. PM should be a major focus of gardeners and breeders, PM may be the most widely reoccurring, hard to control, problem in most grows, legal or not. Give me spider mites over PM any day!

Don't have any first hand proof, never had much of a PM problem indoors, but I did find this very intriguing, and seems easy enough to try.

Credit to Krunchbubble for the idea. He claims running a UV light like they use in a hospital will kill all the spores stopping PM and bud rot. He recommended a certain model, but there are many little UV air purifiers. A small tube with a fan, that recirculates the air past a UV light killing bacteria/fungus etc..

I would assume they work better as a preventative measure, not as cure a to a PM riddled room. Also they are made in many sizes, so I assume it would be important to use one the right size for the cubic feet of space.

I do have a mother and seed production room going I am intending to add UV purifiers to, although there is no PM so wont really be able to say how well it works. Seems like a no brainer though..

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound cured! or something like that.. lol

I'll vouch for the peroxide/water rinse, at harvest time. A local grower had a pm issue halfway through flower and they rinsed using this method. I hadn't heard of rinsing at harvest before and was very surprised at how little mold taste remained.

They couldn't taste the mold, it was definitely there on the exhale though. I was rather amazed, considering the condition of the crop at harvest time.
