Im ready to start a new grow in a bedroom closet. Normal sized closet w/ the 2 sliding doors. Growing on one side. 400w hps w/ air coolable hood. I tested the light and its very bright and very warm. Problem is it gets hot here in the summer. 95-105f outside in the daytime. Right now(2am) its 80f in the room w/ 2 fans going and no light on. The light will be on during the night when i flower. The first month it will be on 24hr. My question is why does everyone say the room needs to be in the 70sf ? Dont these plants normally grow in hot temps in the wild? I imagine in africa or india in the summer it gets very hot.

Well, ideal is 76 or so with no CO2. You need either a fan bringing cold air in from outside, hot air blowing out, or an AC. How many plants are you going to have?

Do you have control of your ambient temps? (The tempature outside of the closet.) Central air into the room that the closet is in would be great if you have it.

The plants do grow outside in high temps, but they also have more access to carbon, light, and water.

I don't want to sound like I know what I am talking about and have you take it for more than it is (personal experience). Here on the Island we have some staggering temps too. The plants can do well in high temps for relatively short periods of time, however the recommended temps are to get the optimum results from the plant.

I find that on our little desert island that if we can maintain temps of less than 85 degrees F, the results are still outstanding, even in the summertime. As the plants venture outside of the optimum temps, they seem to have to work a bit harder to get the same results.

Watch your watering schedule and don't wait too long to water, the higher temps cause an increase in the plants natural cooling activity (transpiration) and they will droop very rapidly. Keep em happy and they will return the favor.

Get an inline centrifugalto change the air over in the closet 3-5 times per minute ie.if you had a 100cf room you'll want atleast a 300cfm inline centrifugal.

Also you need to make some passive intakes.....look at the links in my signature,that will help you alot!

Are you placing a wall in the closet to block off one half?

What are the measurements of the space within the closet that you will be using in w x h x l?

Its a normal bedroom closet w/ 2 sliding doors. Yes the house has AC. Will use during the day but off at night. I open up the windows at night and turn on fans. The side of the closet i will be growing is 2.5 x 3 and from top of dirt to light is 5ft. The light is hanging from a shelf but there is about 2ft above that. I will be growing 2-4 plants skunk 11. There will be an inlet fan (4 in) for the hood and an exhaust hose going to anouther fan into a scrubber. I will use a fan near the floor on the garden side to pull air in w/ the door open 2-3in. And an exhaust fan up high on the other side with the door open about 6in. This is a hydro flood system and wont dry out but roots can breath. There will be a divider up to the light but open above that. Not sure at what height to cut light back to 12hrs. Plants will max at 5ft. Should i top? Thanks

Will you be using an inline centrifugal fan or some crappy computer/axial fan?

Sound quite simmilar to my set up. Except I have a perpetual with a veg chamber on the other side of the closet. I also have a bit less head room, as the top of teh closet has the ballest and fans...

I am in so cal, and it gets 110 during the day. I run the flower chamber at night starting at 11:00 PM. Also open up an vent at night.

As I write its 4:00 pm and my room ambiant is 85. In the closet its 78 (lights out).

About teh highest I hit is brief bits of 84 or so, and I'd say I average ~ 78. If I go above 85 something is broken...

I run a AC 600 what with 2 x 3 feet of space. I have a 6" can fan dedicated to cool the light. It blowes up to my attic. It draws from the closet itself in hot times, but in winter I inlet from inside the wall in an attempt for a sealed environ.

I have another 6" vortex on a temp switch that always pulls from the closet, and also vents into the attic. When I cross 77 or so both fans are on, else its just the AC hood during summer, or neither during winter; I like my house cold and actually need some heat in those month so the fan only vent the closet every so often as temp builds.

I never did the math, but obviously threw money at the issue. Two 6" vortex fans for a single closet has to be a high turnover, but that is what it took to keep the closet a few degress above ambiant.

Also, I have a passive intake (with a fan that kicks on furing lights out for air flow). This intake is outside of the room itself, in the halway, which tends to be cooler than the room.

I run an ocilating and fixed 9" fan 24 x 7 in teh closet for ventilation, and becuase some of my plants are within 9" of the glass and nothing I can do (alreading doing lst etc).

On the other side I have a rubber made with two 125W CFLs. This is vented from a seperate 4" vortex that is on a temp switch. It also vents into the attic. It also intakes from the hall. using a seperate feed.

The intake and exhaust fans for the hood are 4in high velosity fans w/ 4in ducting hose. The fan pushing air into the closet is one of those tall cylinder tower type fans. And the exhaust fan from the closet is a 10in high velosity fan. I use the 4in to 6in ducting adapter to house the duct fans since the fan housing is 5.5in and blade is 4. Am using hose clamps also. The scrubber is home built out of a plastic laundry soap box from costco w/ a 6in hole cut in the top and lots of small holes drilled in bottom. Well see if it works. If so will post pics.
