heat and electrical tips attic grow

Hey everyone this is my first thread here on icmag and im lookin for some solid advice/tips as far as growing in an attic. Like what can i use besides dusty pink insullation to insulate it. The attic is seperated into two parts, one part is like the size of a bedroom like 10x15 and that takes up about 1 quarter of the attic and then the other 3 quarters is just open with beams and wood etc.. and looks like your tyipical attic (which i will use to veg). I want to insulate the smaller(10x15) room which is pretty much a typical bedroom drywalled, window, paint etc.. (which i use to flower) but it has drywall up and im not tearin it down and puttin in isulation. So i need something to cover the walls with. an ideas? I will have a/c running in here also keep in mind. Its a three story house so the roof is closer to the sun thats why im thinkin i need insulation even with a/c. I will be running two 600watt cooltubes at any given time with a good ol mod'ed stanely blower. OK all you sparkys come on out help me with this on here. Im sure its so easy for you! I wasnt able to be present when my subpanel was put in but im pretty sure its run off a 120v line from the basement and i just dont understand the switch setup. Here it is. when you look at the box from the bottom up you first see two 20 amp switches right on top of each other then you go up another few inches and theres another set-up of two 20amp switches just like the bottom, but the 20amp switch on the top is the size of 1 20amp switch, (now heres where i get confused) but it is split into two smaller switches that each say 20amp. My question is. Does this mean that i have 40 amps to work with on this split up circuit or are the plugs just sharing the same circuit even tho the breaker switch to them is split into two smaller 20amp switches? I think the sparky put it in this way cuz we told him we where gonna have an a/c up there, but he ran the split plugs to the opposite side of the attic that we needed them anyway. I just dont understand how this split thing works please help! oh and by the way there are 3 seperate plugs in the smaller room and each has its own 20amp circuit and then there are two more plugs( the ones that run from the split) on the bigger part of the attic for a total of 5 2-plug receptcacle boxes. Any help is appreciated. And if someone could tell me why its so important for a/c to have its own circuit that would be great. Its just that i got a 20 amp to put in an a/c that draws like 12 or 13 amps and i wanna put a few fans on the same line and total that would be about or less than the 80 percent operating margin that you have to work with on a 20 amp circuit. But i dont wanna risk it till i hear from all of you.thx again

I tapped a household circuit or two and have 2-600's + 2- 6" fans. I tapped into a household a/c pipe and use it as the 6" inlet to the intake fan.. So , when the a/c blows, its COLD, when the a/c is NOT on, its sucking household air, which is cold.. My temps with the lights on, are 77-79 degrees with about 40 percent humidity. Lights off, it gets cold, daytime, a/c on.. to keep the house cold. Temps are 66-72 degrees.

I hope it helps bro, anything else?

good luck on an attic grow...

you better have it completely sealed off, and have the ability to heat and cool it in the most extreme temperatures....

I have both frozen and cooked plants in an attic, and the outdoor temps were not that far from ideal, just gets nasty up in an attic.....

Hello all,

I suggest investing in making a well insulated enclosed space where you can use a heater and a A/C (such as a small (3000btu) window unit) so that you can control your environment instead of it controlling yoru grow.

Having control of your environment is crucial to your quanity and quality.

2x4, insulation and some ply for the floor and drywall. The quality you put into yoru grow cab/room now will pay you back well in a few short months-no matter what the weather is outside.

For instance, it was over 100*F the yesterday day. It did not cool down below 75*F it 3:00am. My plants are chillin lights off at 70*F and lights on at 75.5*F.

Ventilation is key...must keep the air moving both across the plants and in and out of the cab/room.

Just my thoughts.

What do you think about using that silver stuff for insulation? I gave the link at the top, it says it reflects like 97% radiant heat. Would that help me out?
