Having trouble with temps, recomendations?

Hey guys -

I have been having trouble with low temps during lights off.

I have a 600watt in a 3x4 closet with a 6" vortex and a Can66. Air is exhausted into atttic and intake is pulling cold air from attic.

Light is on 8pm to 8am and during that temps are at a high of 75 and a low of about 65. During the day when lights are off its at a max of 60 and a low of about 51.

I have tried to lower the fan speed and I plugged up the intake hole with a old wool sweatshirt which rose the temp a bit.

I have been flowering since Jan 21st and they just started to show sex, so I believe the cold temps are causing this slow down.

What options do I have? I was going to go to Walmart and get the cheapest ceramic heater they have, and hopefully it has a built in timer.

The only thing I am worried about is electrical and safety. I am pulling my power from an overhead light that wasn't hooked up. I have no idea the ratings of the circuit but so far its giving no problem to my 600watt Digi and 6" fan. Wire isn't getting hot nor warm.

What do you guys suggest?

What are you growing in? I'm in a DWC. My temp situation is very similar to yours and plants doing fine. Water temps are kept up at night with an aquarium heater. Could you do similar? A heating mat under soil buckets? I think roots are pickier to temp lows and swings. The topside is built for it.

I am in 3gallon grow bags with Promix.

I mean I started flowering on 1/21 and just now has shown sex, isn't that a little slow?

Would these temperatures cause this? I dont want to have slow growth throughout the grow.

Right before hte lights turned off it was 51 degrees at hte lowest part in the room. When I grew outdoors toward the end of the season it got that cold, but they had already been flowering.

Hey mate - if you can get a heater then  but I don't think those temps should affect your growth rate much. Time taken to show sex vary from strain to strain so it's hard to tell if temperatures had a negative effect.

My current grow has a lights on average temp of 75f and lights off 57f and they're having no problems. I don't think you have anything to worry about if you can't get a heater.

However, cooler night temperatures lead to a higher percentage of females (so I hear) and females tend to show sex later than males - so that might help explain the longer sexing time? Just a theory.

I actually added a small ceramic heater was 25 bucks. Tossed it in set it at 70 on energy save mode. hasn't been a problem with electric, still running strong no popped breakers.

Rose the temps good. Killed off the males so im on track.

Good theory bout the lower temps and females, is there any research to it?

My T*Haze took 21 days to show sex. It depends on what you're growing. The ground is an insulator and will hold fairly steady once you get a few feet down. Air is heat sync.

Now everything else I say here is just a theory on my part. The top part of the plant is used to massive, everyday temp swings. The roots however, work their way down and hide in the dark. They're used to consistancy. If you can provide a constant temp range for the roots around 68-72, the top shouldn't care. Especially if the "day" temps get into the 70-80 range.

My 2¢, for what it's worth.

Sounds pretty good to me.
