Having trouble cloning

Hello,

Well the topic says it all, had 30 cuttings but with no roots. using clonex and humidity doom.
Seen countless grow video's for cloning and cuttings and read books about growing also. However anyone got any pic on taking a great cutting. Shit man, 10 days and nothing. Gonna try again as soon as I get some answers from you guys...

Try poking through CLONERS- a collection of various methods Find one similar to what you're doing and refer to the original thread.

Without specifics I'd say excess plant material may be a problem. Supporting plants takes roots and we don't have any yet. Here are two examples of trim jobs I made for others.

How are your rootzone temps? I've experienced nothing but death under 68ºF and prefer 75º-80º F. By keeping cuts short and well trimmed, I can clone dome free in RH as low as 15%

Exellent post.

As usual I find myself agreeing with FreezerBoy. One consideration he didn't mention is lighting. Freshly cut clones don't need or want much light. Ambient is plenty.

Clones need the correct lighting/temperature and photoperiod.

10 days is not that long if you have no heat, you need patience!.
If you want almost 100% success, repeatedly? get an aeroponic cloner, takes all the hit and missery out of cloning, there is no reason to lose cuttings these days, even the cheapest x-stream will do.
You can find a way that fits your system and gives good results in time, why bother?, a cloner will allow you to count on the cuts from the 1st use. Embrace technology :)

Don't worry man, some people have lot's of trouble when they start cloning, I certainly did.

I tried lot's of ways, aeroponics, bubbler, sometimes they worked great, others were a complete failure.

So then I tried bottom heat, tray, dome (sorry FreezerBoy), Clonex, Jiffy pellets, 2 36W cfls.

NOW I GET THIS, 38 OUT OF 38 CLONES, 14 DAYS, PATIENCE IS THE KEY, DON'T ANNOY THEM

ALL WITH HEALTHY ROOTS

This works for the variety I grow, yours may be different. Try different ways, one day it will all happen, it did for me.

Happy cloning.

Might even take longer than 14 days for the roots to poke out the sides.

yeah, 14 days or so is standard for me, but I have seen results in less. I try to keep the root zone as close as possible to 80F, a 24/7 light cycle, and I trim most all of the larger fans. I also use 2-23w CFLs, at least 12" away.
In the winter I need to use the dome because it's really dry here, but when it's warmer out, I just mist daily.

Yep, I've had roots in a bubbler in 5 days, good roots.

I just don't do it that way any more.

5-6 days in a vermiculite cloner for me too, High.
Try the "World Class Cloner" thread here, Angelus. I'll see if I can find it and link you. It seems to be a great method for begining cloners, and it sure saved my grow. Thing is, it's soo super simple and once you understand it, you can apply that new understanding of cloning to any technique you choose.

Thats the reason for the cloner collection. To point out there are a variety of ways, many of which seem contradictory to each other with domes/no domes being a prime example. This is why I always point out my bubbler only works when I use it "wrong." Ultimately, if you get roots, you did it right no matter what you did.

Keep mixing and matching, trying new ways and have some patience. Took me months to get my first set of roots.

Thanks freezerboy. I see my problem was running clones under 18 hours of light with about 68F with no lights. I use a 125W CFL for my clones which has baout 10.000lumens output.
Taking new clones now. Hope to correct the problem. Thanks so much. I use soil for my clones. Is lighting okay? Thanks so much for pictures... Gonna run 24/7 for my next clones.

Ive seen faster results rooting under more light also id definatly check your water temp. Using a dome the first 5 days will probably increase your success rate by a lot as well.

Clone killer

Clone killer

I too am a clone killer. Every single time. I'm an outdoor grower
and about to take clones off my first grow from seed (they are in pots outdoors on my patio). I think I have the light cycle all wrong. People wrote 24/7 light. Is that the only way to root a clone? I have a limited indoor setup. I've even killed off rooted
clones. Thanks.

Try CLONERS- a collection of various methods

I've always lighted clones 24/0 under very low light. A single 23 watt or smaller from several feet away.

Note that all methods can be tweaked and any way that gets you roots is the right way. My bubbler only works when I use it "wrong." Icecold says domes are a must, I say they're death incarnate. As long as we get roots, we're both right.

Rooting is a royal pain in the ass. Have 24 cuttings now with temp at 75-82F with proper lighting. Been there for 10 days. Still waiting for roots but can't see none.
I thought this cloning thing was gonna be easy... Still waiting for it to take roots...
I just don't understand using same method as freezerboy with soil. Does it really take that long. Pulled one out to check and it hadn't take roots at all. Same as it was when I put it down in the soil. Shit man, looks like I have to buy more seeds.
