Having troble wiring pc cooling fan..

I recently bought a 115VAC cooling fan from radioshack. I also bought a 12 volt adapter. The fan i bought has two black wires, and the adapter has different voltage settings (9,10.2,12,13). My question is, do I just strip the wires to the adapter and connect them the two wires the cooling fan? I already did a little experiment with them and all i got was a spark...stupid?? :pointlaug

I've done numerous searches and got nothing straightforward

115VAC is 115 volts alternating current, which is what comes out of the plug in the wall, you don't need an adaptor, you just need to put a 2 prong plug on the wires coming out of the fan

:yeahthats

Only time you need an adapter is when you're using a fan designed for a computer.

go to home depot electrical ile and find the section where they have male cord caps and get one that will fit for that wire. when you wire it up there will probably be a couple of screws to hold the wire, one will be gold and the other will be silver. the gold screw is the hot and the silver screw is the neutral. if there is a green screw that is for the ground but it doesnt sound like that fan has a ground wire. btw are both wires completely black or is one of them marked with a white stripe or one wire may have a rough edge. if there is a stripe or rough edge then that will be your neutral.

I finally got my 115vac cooling fan wired, after that I decided it was too loud. So i got a smaller 12vDC fan, then i got high, after that i wired it the same as the 115vac and plugged it in. It just blew up.. and caught on fire. :badday: :badday:
bummer.
