Have you ever started your photo-period plants at 12/12

Dr Bud Green Genes said he would start his Chesaw plants at 12/12.

Have you ever done this? Did they turn out alright?

I will be starting Haze and NYC Power Diesel soon...and I am thinking about starting them at 12/12...

Yes, space is an issue. I have a very small growing space. Don't want the plants to grow taller than about 13 inches...

I am fed up with auto flowering plants. They are quite sensitive to nute-issues and their yields are a bit too small. Have had much better results in the past with photo-period plants.

Mind you, I am only using relatively small wattage lights like 125 CFLs and 135 & 240 LEDs...

If I had 600 or 1000 watters I am sure I would get better & bigger results from auto-flowers...but for now I have to do my best with what I've got.

Cheers for your advice & input! :thank you:

If you are only using low wattage CFLs and LEDs I do not really recommend this technique as your yields will probably be incredibly small. Even under hps there are strains that do not react well to it.

If your working in such a small space you'll probably have to do a bit of experimentation to see how big your plants get with little or no veg time. It's highly strain dependend and higher light intensities seem to do better with this method.

I would just tie them down if I were in your situation. Give the plants whatever veg time they need. In this situation I'd say one trained plant with a little veg time will probably yield better than 2 plants with no veg time.

I would also highly recommend starting from clones instead of seeds if you want to try a method that uses putting very small plants under 12/12. They react much better as they are already sexually mature.

I grow from clones and I put my clones under 12/12 at about 2-6 inches in a 3 gallon pot. They will still get from 18" to 3,5 foot in heigth depending on strain (600w hps).

Also starting seed from 12/12 is a bit useless imo. The plants will not go into flower before sexual maturity which is usually between 3-4 weeks. So you could just as well give them 18/6 or something similar for that time.

Thank you, Boffin! I appreciate you taking the time to tell me of your experience! :tiphat:

Andyo, you're a fucken STAR, mate! That's a fantastic thread! It's long and I am gonna enjoy reading every bit of it!

Mucho gracias! :peacock:

They get really tall due to lack of light and the crop kind of sucks. Thats basically my one experience with it. 18 hr light is much better, and they stay compact till you want them to bud.
