Have a bad balast that's under warranty .. Can get a loaner , is it safe?

First off I'm not in a med state.... Had a 1000 w hps balast go out but it has a 5 year warranty. Called the place about what to do . They said it takes a few weeks to getem fixed and sent back but they have a loaner ballast for this situation. Do you think its safe to get it? I didn't ask but am assuming their going to want your info for it. What should be done here? What do you guys think?

I'm kinda confused. Are you asking if having a replacement ballast sent to your place is safe? Sure. There are far more uses for HID lighting than just growing pot, and they are legal.

It's fine. Likely just some previously repaired ballasts they keep in house to rotate out while they send the bad one back to get repaired at the manufacturer.

If you want to avoid it all just spend the $40 or whatever for a new capacitor and 9 times out of 10 that is what it needs to bring it back to life. Its typically 2 push on type connectors. Anyone could do it really so long as they aren't soldered on... in which case you'd clip the ends and crimp on new ends. Doing so would void your warranty though, so I'd likely just take their loaner and wait to get yours back..so long as your not eating the shipping and stuff to make it happen.

^or find a shop who can just fix the damn thing right there in the store. It's like a 5 minute job.

I really doubt it has some GPS in it or something unless you're dealing with a really sketchy shop looking to jack or rat out their customers.. if that's what your asking.

Sorry.. Should have been more clear... I'm talking about brining it to the hydro shop where it was bought and getting a loaner ballast from them until mines fixed

Dont have the cash for a new one and already have 2..... And I know it's probably the capacitor but of I crack it open it'll completly void the warranty.... When its plugged in you can tell its running but it won't fire the bulb... Capacitor right?

most shops have loaner ballest and dont ask for info cause they assume your gonna come back for yours being repaired

standard practice for a lot of shops that are sorta dicks... a loaner ballast should be fine in a pinch and is a lot better than no ballast... most shops will swap out with a new one if they know its bad and just be done with it no loaners involved
