yes they work great for a veg clone system! I got a baker rack from lowes and put a wardrobe cover over it! alomost the same thing maybe better but i also paid 89$ for mine! its a 5 tier bakers rack from lowes!

heres what i got it works great for germanating seeds and cloning and vegging...
I germinate on the bottom and clone in the shelf above that and veg in the rest of the top!

It fits perfect! get some 4 foot flouros and 1 power strip and a timer and your all good!

also, i went to walmart, and they had a zip up closet like that, but the inside was blue

i'm gonna order it online.

as for privacy, it isn't really that big of an issue

The cover from lowes does show light through its not light proof but it does keep heat in and keeps them in there own environment!
I put a little 4in fan at the top for an exhaust and it keeps it nice and cool

I don't mean to rain on your parade but I would be concerned about heat, unless you're using a tek light or some floros. HPS light systems get hot and that fabric doesn't look very thick or heat resistant. If I was you I would just go with a c13 or similar model...
