Has anyone got any bugs from ocean forest?

I recently got thrips, i think their thrips. They are tiny little lime green
Things crawling on my leaves. And they are leaving marks on my leaves. Has to be from the soil . I emailed fox farm, they said its possible that they were picked up on route to the grow stores or from
the grow store. Has any one else got bugs from ocean forest?

its not just with ocean forest. Most hydro shops store their soil outside and the bags have holes to allow the soil to breathe. Down side to this is that it also allows bugs to also get into the soil. I drive past a hydro shop everyday and they have a pallet of each soil sittin outside and has been for at least a month. Treat anything new coming to your rooms as if its infested with every bug you dont want. Its easier to spray for precaution then to have to discover mites or something took your whole room.

After a clone was brought to me in perfect condition (HA) and after 4 years of having no trouble with PM i left for a week and came back to one of my veg rooms hit with PM. I now run whats called an "Infirmary". Well 2 actually. 1 5x5 Tent is for new things to be sprayed or dunked and clean the leaves by sandwiching them between two brand new sponges and alternating top and bottom..then after a week they are moved to the next 5x5 tent where they are sprayed or dunked again but this time we come at them from different angles because they can build immunities if your not rotating your solutions. The bags of soils are the same. i put them in bins with holes for drainage and hit them. I reuse my soils to keep outside influences down also

2 yrs ago my bags of FFOF came with some nasty little flys ..they started as like lil little black bugs then became flys ..but they were tiny ..I had to go to the foxfarm site to see what was up and that wasnt any help ..all the bugs were gone by the 3-4 week of flower ..they didnt affect my plants but where annoying as shit ..

I had a lady bug and a spider or 2 find it's way into my tent so idk if they took care of the pest or dropping the temps using my ac and basically freezing my soil everyday killed em ..I don't think they can survive the cold but idk ..and I don't wanna find out

I've been through bag after bag of both happy frog and ocean forest and I haven't ever had any sort of bug infestation or anything. The place i always buy from keeps their pallets of soil inside so that probably helps a lot.

Could it also be possible that climate has something to do with it? I live in a very arid region, and pestilent insects like spider mites and thrips don't seem to be as much of an issue around here as they are in other places.

Don't except any bags that are heavy. The ones that have been out in the rain can have problems. They never seem to dry out after sitting soaking wet. The bags should feel light and fluffy, not heavy and compacted.
Putting seeds in bagged soil, that has been rained on heavily is asking for a lot of problems. Damp off is a big one.

What about root aphids? I have a friend who works for the store and swore they came in his ffof. I didn't believe him having only seen knats from ffof.

The first time I ever saw Root Aphids was in a pot filled with Happy Frog. And the fight goes on... -granger

Last time I ran a mix of Ocean Forest and Happy Frog, I had spider mites, thrips, AND fungus gnats. After cleaning out the area thoroughly and with no other variables changed except switching to ProMix, have had no pest problems (so far).

Those sure sound just like thrips. All the shops I've visited had some sort of pest on display plants. But how they'd get into the bag is another question. If you have a chill space outside, and its warmer than it is now, then I'd solar pasteurize every bag. Simply put black poly over it and tuck it in and set in full sun.

My buddy in a big commercial house did an experiment w the peat they get. He wet it and put in an enclosed isolated container. About 3/4 of all peat they get would hatch FGs.
