Harvest times related to grindhouse gear

Well as i ever approach harvest this question has contantly been in my mind. I know Bubba and Chemdawg are usually finish around 70days, but what about the Tang Tang? I thought Blockhead was an early finisher. I understand the Tang is a sativa, but its still possible for an early finisher.

Also, what should we be judging for harvest window, swollen calyxs or trichs? I dont like judging by trichs just because the plant can still pack on much more weight IMO. Not to mention i have mostly cloudy trichs on both my Tang Tang dom. plants and only at day 48.

From your expereinces with these strains, what do you guys think?

From my expereinces watching trichs can help determine the high, but doesnt mean a plant will stop growing. Grow some true sativas and you'll know/see what i mean.

It can depend on the way you grow em. Water, light, medium, ferts, all that.

Let that one go at least 25 more days, if not 30-40, you'll like it (; Harvest when brown trichs start to form, or when most is creamy blurry white, to get a better high, and not as much stone. It's subjective when to harvest, let her go even longer for more amber trichs, and it'll get more stonier...

Trichs also get bigger both in numbers, but also individual glands, as the calyxes multiply and swell.

Well see thats my main thing. I'm not new at gardening and have never really found trichs to be helpful. I'm letting these plants i have now go for about 70-80 days leaning more towards 80.

I've had plants that were about 20% amber but not even close to finishing. That's why i say the whole cloudy/amber thing is kinda flawed. I think the optimal time can be seen when the calyx is basically swollen and looks to be devouring the pistil.

Whats everyones experience with harvest days? Are all of you at 70+ or do some of you have some early goers?

Ah, ok, I see.
When the bud and calyxes all are big, pumped with resin and just about to burst with overall ripeness, that is a great harvest time, I agree. Seen buds with all milky, a few clear and amber, but like you say, it was no where near harvest time.

Some ppl swear by the trich-color tho. It's a combo, imo. But the calyx ripeness, size, trichcount/size is key, I think, more harvest, more potent and long lasting. Plus the plant leaches it self in the end-ripening stage, so better tasting too, + less dirt in the lungs.

Some loses or converts flavours and scents, when flowered for too long, like Lemon Haze or C99... It transfers to a stale, musky pungentness with the LH without much lemon..

I think the main problem associated with flowering sativa long is most people would have a hard time knowing when to harvest since they don't swell the same.

I agree with you and think the final stages to the plant are most meaningful. IMO this is when the true pungentness and different aromas come out. This is why i dont trust trich color, if you harvest early your left with fluffy, hay smelling, harsh bud and little potency. The self flush is a great thing also which takes away a lot of the harshness. Thats how i know i'm getting close.

Trich size does make a differne but i think in order to judge by trichs you should be somewhat experienced in it. Otherwise most newbies will end up harvesting early and wasting all their precious grow time.

I've never had a plant go to long, i'm impatient enough as it is! than again different strokes for different folks, which is why some judge trichs. Just not one of my things anymore, my handscope is for examining my smoke and especially hash.

I've been debating this as well. Tomorrow is day 70 for my Mob Boss ladies and I'm thinking of starting flush sometime in the next 10 days.

Big Momma (Pheno #1) is starting to show some yellow/red leaves and most of the buds are nice n swollen. She could start flush today, but I'm hoping for a little more amber and any other added weight benefits.

Lil Pee Wee (Pheno #2) still has a few blonde hairs halfway down the plant, but isn't too far behind Big Momma.

I usually start feeding water only right when the plant starts flushing itself. Any color change and than plant starts its water diet, even if it had a couple weeks left. Being organic it will selectively choose what it wants from the soil if it finds necessary. Most likely it wont choose much.

If i were you i would have already begun flushing...
