Hard red stems? (because that sounds like a thread you want to open)

Does anyone know anything about why the stems on my plant's are red and hard?
Clones I have outside have started to shoot green so I'm guessing its an environmental issue?

With the information provided, anything proffered would be little more than a guess.

Typically, unless it's cold, and/or genetics, reddened stems (petioles) are indicative of a deficiency or uptake issue. P and N are usually most often associated. There's a thread, Signs of Underfeeding? got locked unfortunately, but good information is posted in it.

As for 'hard', are you saying they're abnormally hard? Silica supplements, perhaps? Each strain can be so specific in its needs it's difficult to state unequivocally, Oh, they all need this level or that level of such and thus. Ya dig?

hard red stems are a sure sign of a few things, either not enough nutes, or lockout...

lockout can be created by a few things, salt build up, improper ph, cold temps, overwatering...ect...

if the new shoots are nice and green and seem to be taking off then my guess is they had a small tranpolant shock and needed time to adapt before it could resume eating again...but if this hard red stem/red striped stem continues then i would suggest its a ph issue or if you been feeding them maybe a salt build up but salt buildup is very rare outdoors
