Happy Noob Grower!

Hello

Been smoking for a few decades now, but this is my first grow. It's just for my own use, so I'm not as much looking to get the biggest whopper yield as to have some fine, fine smoke. I have various medical conditions, and can't afford to buy the schwaggy bags we get around here so I just suffer. Putting that behind me once and for all!

Anyway I'm 30 days into veg under a MH 400, coir in 3-gal pots, using FF trio nutes. I have three strains going:

1. G13 Haze
2. Warlock x Blockhead
3. Nepali hybrid

On the mistake side, I didn't water/feed them enough the first few weeks. The G13 fan leaves started getting pale/blotchy. That cleared up within a day when I fed them. Also, one of my cats is hell bent for leather to eat those plants. He has gotten to them several times, so the leaves are a little beat up. I have them secured now.

On the plus side, they're growing really well. I have the lights quite close, so there are a ton of nodes on each plant and the furthest apart is about 1/2 inch. They're like a miniature bush. I started LST as soon as they were long enough to bend over. I don't really need the yield, but I'm really interested in bonsai'ing them and training them, learning how they grow. I want to do it to my tomatoes, too -- can't wait.

Anyway, I would LOVE to show off my pictures! Having this big of a secret is killing me! I can't seem to make Windows really and truly delete all my info off the pictures, though. I keep clicking the thing under properties, try to wipe it clean, come back and all the information is right where I deleted it. Any ideas?

:peacock:

Thanks!

Anybody I know that has cats and grows has the same problem, myself included. What info is it leaving on there? Are you hitting save before you close the window? I have a mac so I can't really help to much with the pictures.

Nice to meet you

Nice to meet you

Thanks for the response :thank you:

Windows is leaving the name of my computer and my user name on that computer. I don't know if I'm going to have to re-shoot them or what. I'm dying to share. I've changed the names of both, but one still shows up with the original name.

Has anybody ever tried putting cayenne pepper on the plants?

I came up with a semi-ingenious plan for a light-proof tent made of pvc. I'm going to move the whole grow into a room with a door that can be closed, so they won't be able to get in there when I'm not around. I'll post pics soon, I'm so excited!

if you got Win7 just rightclick the file, click properties,
then go to details tab, remove properties and personal information (select all and click ok),
click ok in the properties window and you're done.

if not, search for a free exif eraser program on the web.

welcome to the forum!

Best of luck Tesla, I will be watching your progress! Hopefully you can get the picture situation sorted out, not sure what to suggest in that situation.

I was just recently gifted with a 'Nepali Mix Hybrid', I have no idea what to expect so I am very interested in seeing how yours go.

Keep it up!

The only time I use cayenne pepper is if I get mites. Then I take a tablespoon of cayenne pepper one cup of water and the tobacco from 4 cigarettes and bring it to a boil. Let it cool and strain it through a coffee filter. It works great but you dont want to use it unless you have mites.

Exploziv: Thanks for the info. I've done that bit with the properties, but when I go back to open them again it still shows the former username, even though I've changed both that and the computer name itself. Not sure if that's only on my computer or what, but I don't want to take the chance. I'll search for the program you mentioned, very anxious to show my pretty plants!

:peacock:

Waki: We may have the exact same ones! Mine were freebies too. I will definitely do a grow report on them. I have to say they all seem to be quite vigorous. I LST'd the crap out of them all as soon as they were big enough to bend over, can't even count how many colas are on the Nepalis. I see from the ultimate sativa thread that I've made a serious faux pas -- they've been vegging 30 days. Oh well, I'll have to get very, very serious with the LST.

The internodes on all of them are also very close together -- I'm using the 400 MH to heat the room here in January/February, so I have the light very close to the plants.

Now I've started squeezing the meristems in the few places where i can get my fingers between internodes. They all smell super dank! The Nepalis smell piney, the G13s skunky. Don't know how to describe the Warheads. :yummy:

Off to search for that program...

Thanks Tube Dude!

Today I went to the lumber yard and got a bunch of 1/2" PVC pipe, Ts, and crosses. The basic idea is building a cube to hang the lighting from and attach the light proofing plastic on. I'm moving my bedroom into my current grow room and making the bedroom my grow/office because it has a door so I can shut the little maniacs out of there.

For the moment I'm not worried about mites -- don't ask me why, but I have dozens of ladybugs in my house right now. I didn't know they lived year round, or maybe my house is a famous ladybug resort. :)

Picture Test

Picture Test

OK, Exploziv! I tried an EXIF, but still the same thing. This really may be just because I'm viewing it on my computer, though I really don't understand why that would be. Anyway the part that's left I don't think can identify me, so let's see. I'm going to post one, maybe someone will click and tell me if they see anything other than "nunya," as in "nunya bidness." ;) If it didn't work, I'll delete the pic and try again.

This is the underside of one of the G13 Hazes, with the crazy undergrowth. Getting ready to re-tie them (I used white yarn the first time).

Thanks!

Handy site: http://regex.info/exif.cgi - you can upload any photo and it will read out all the EXIF data embedded therein. :dance013:

The photo you posted looks clean. Really clean, as in no data. But try it yourself to be sure.

I can confirm from my own photos posted here that this site doesn't make any attempt to remove the EXIF info, so anyone posting photos taken with a camera phone should definitely be stripping the location info out first.

Thanks Quinoa

Thanks Quinoa

:woohoo:

Apparently the info does still show up on mine because it's on mine -- weird, but I'm glad for the confirmation!

So here's the catproofing technology I came up with.

I dumpster dived this white wire shelf which I use to veg. The shelves are 16" apart. The 400 MH sits nicely on top, skip one shelf, vegging plants are on third shelf. Because it's so cold in the house, I run the lights at night and the temperature stays between 75-85.

For smaller seedlings, I can place them on the second shelf with the T5 on the top. I have some CFLs that can be clipped to the sides of the shelf if need be.

I got a roll of screen, the kind you patch a screen door with. It was about $7. cut it with a utility scissors. Used some craft wire I have laying around to make little connectors, sort of like twist ties. I'll be replacing the duct taped cardboard as I get around to cutting another panel to wrap all the way around the back.

I love my cats, but keep off the grass!:cathug:

Waki, here are a couple of pictures of the Nepalis. I've uploaded more pics of them in an album. Working on a grow journal, I'll link you when it's up. Note that the one on the left got chomped bigtime by the cat.

Clone day

Clone day

Well, I made my first attempt at cloning today. Have to say I'm not overly optimistic. I think the temp may have been too low. Some of the Nepali clones were like 4" long when I cut them, all kinds of growth, so I thought they'd do really well. They started drooping almost immediately. The others look like they may be OK, but I'm not holding my breath. I'll post pics tomorrow.

Hi Tesla, looking good! Yeah the Nepali's from what I have heard like to get pretty large if you let them. Mine are only about 5 day out sprouts but their long sativa leaves are already showing themselves. I was planning on vegging for 4-6 weeks and then going to a 400w HPS for flower. Will have to watch that veg time closely. How much space are you working with? Will you go to 400w HPS for flower or stay MH?

Hi DoT,
Tagging the thread, you know second hand copies of photoshop elements are really cheap on ebay. That program does all sorts of nice things with photos, and taking pics and playing with pics becomes almost as adictive as growing the plants once you've got it mastered. Also you can strip out all info really nicely. There are lots of free exif removers online for free, but none do the other stuff elements does. Anyway just a thought.

Hey Waki

Sorry I didn't see this sooner.

I did basically just what you did, 6 weeks veg, then under 400 HPS. My grow room is about 4.5' x 4.5'.

I screwed up though, the weather got much warmer all of a sudden (spring sprung!) and my grow room got way too hot with the lights so close. I'd been using the lights for heat, so I had them very close to the plants and it was fine.

The Nepalis, being so tall, got FRIED. I woke up to the very strong smell of chlorophyll. The plants looked like they suddenly developed a severe case of the claw, complete with a few crispy leaves. They really overnight went from beautiful to bedraggled.

I think I have the temp under control now, moved the lights way up, opened the tent door, running a fan while the lights are on. The top leaves are flattened back out and looking much better, but I pulled off a number of scorched crunchy leaves. So as GMT warned me, I'm on the lookout for ladyboys.

Been there more times than I'd like to admit. Glad you got it all under control.
