Happy in the morning... droopy in the evening

Hello all.

Ah. My first post on icmag. Well allow me to introduce myself. I've been browsing around on this site for a few years now off and on...waiting for the time when I'd be able to set up my first grow. The time came, and now I'm on day 7 of flower!

I built a cabinet out of plywood and 2x4's... sturdy bastard. It's 2 1/2 feet by 3 1/2 feet and stands 5' tall. Panda poly lining the inside, small humidifier to keep up the RH, which was pulled WAY down when i started running the 6'' vortex for my exhaust. 600 W HPS not air cooled, but I ran the ducting from the exhaust fan so it attaches to the edge of the hood and sucks all the hot air around the bulb out. It's effective enough for now, Temps are at 75 lights on and 63 lights off. I keep the vortex always on low (speed control) to make sure enough fresh air is getting in, and have a small 6" fan circulating air around the plants, but I'm thinking maybe I need to upgrade to a bigger oscillating fan.

Theyre NYCD clones I got from a friend, 5 of them, and after some issues in veg getting the right mix of nutes theyre now looking quite good for a first time I must say...and I have seen quite a number of grows. I've just never had the chance to safely..and now I can!

The 5 clones are in soil, Dutch Treat soil from the hydro store with some extra perlite, a little vermiculite (i think ill leave out next time) and 2 tsp/gal dolomite. I left out worm casting this round but ill be sure to add it in next time.

I'm feeding them AN nutes i got from a friend...In veg I was giving them 5mL sensi grow A&B, 5mL Sweet (Botanicare), a gram of pirhanna per gallon, a drop or two of superthrive earlier on, and 4 mL or so of the fulvic acid. I have a bottle of something labeled growzyme in a 2 liter bottle, but am not sure how to dose it and have left it out. now that theyre in flower im only giving them a 1/4 tsp or so of the grow nutes which ill stop now as the leaf tips are curling downwards (i think a nitrogen deff). im also including a dash of bud blood with 5 mL of bloom, fulvic acid, and a dash of pirhanna.

im not even sure what pirhanna does. its not so descriptive on their label. anyone want to fill me in? all ive heard is good things so I add it, but no one can seem to tell me what it actually is or does.

pH is checked with a digital pen, 6.3...run off about the same.

I'm trying to think of what else I should tell you. Hm. I did some LST work on them beccause I heard NYCD gets quite tall. It smells delicious in there.

So thats about it...all is looking pretty good but im just wondering...in the morning the plants look extremely perky and happy..leaves all reaching out and up, soaking up the morning HPS rays. But about two hours before lights off, some of the upper leaves droop and sag a bit, like theyre tired of the light or something and dont care haha.

has anyone had anything like this happen? any ideas? also any comments or questions about my grow are more than welcome...I can't wait to learn from everyone.

unfortunately, i lost my digicam on a glorious pow day on Kicking Horse. quite devastating to find out i lost 2 gigs of video and pics from a week of riding around BC. but i intend to replace it in a month or so. Thanks everyone!

sounds like it might be a bit hot in there. the soil might be drying out. dont give the plants nutes every watering, give plenty of water and nute them every 2-3 waterings.
sounds like the plants are perspiring alot and sweating out all there water..
water them more oftin, and at night just before they wake up.

Thanks a lot digitalhippy!

I brought my day temps down to about 71-72..which in turn lowered my RH to 45. Is that too dry? I'm watering every 4 or 5 days...I let the soil get completely dry all the way down the pot before I water again. Should I maybe water a little more often? Maybe not let the soil get BONE dry in between waterings?

I've been feeding every other watering, but I think go two watering without feeding and see what happens. Hopefully that nitrogen curling will go away.

Thanks a lot!

if u give them extra water with no feed the nitro curl should go away...
72 is perfect, if u have larger pots u can go a few days. my 6"x6" need daily water...
bone dry once in a while is ok, but a slight damp is better then dry... i notice these plant wilt easy with water loss... not worth losing a branch or two...rh is fine but by 5-6th wk it should be less then 40 if u can...less then 20% increases resin supposidly..and definately prevents budrot...

we've noticed the moving of leaves in relation to the light cycle ... perky morns & limp evenings. we've always taken it to mean the gals were happily on their light schedule. figurin limp at nite meant they're ready to do the internal chemical changes from soakin up lumnes all day. that reaction lightens the weight of the leaves & they perk back up ready for another day of sun.

Nice advice asa42, and nice thread Nathindica. I'm sure i'm not the only person out there who appreciates the knowledge.

i've had this happen to a few plants. they seemed to grow out of it on their own without me (knowingly) taking any corrective action.
