Happy Bud

Hello everyone, dubi. As the title of the thread indicates, I'm interested in lines that produce euphoric effects, or what friends of mine simply call "happy bud". I wanted to know what line in your catalog you believe best fits that quality. Doesn't have to be something you have available for sale necessarily, could even be a clone in your own private collection perhaps. I'm aware your cut of Vietnam Black, Panama IBL, and the highland Nepalese sourced from reeferman are all good candidates. Would love to know your thoughts on the subject Dubi. Been running a cut of DJ's Flo for a while now, and have yet to find anything that can replace it. I'm sure there's others out there with similar or possibly even better effects for the blues. Red Thai from RSC may very well be one but a 20+ week flower time is too much for me or anyone else in my circle. Any of you that know particular strains/cuts which help alleviate depression feel free to chime in :tiphat:

Hi! I have to chime in with a line that charlie garcia has worked with a bit over at cannabiogen: the oaxaca 1979. It's super happy and lovely. It is definitely on par with my inbred line of flo, which is always positive, clear, motivational, and anti-axiety. The oaxaca 1979 fits that description also, but with no indica effects whatsoever - super clean and mellow.

I also have to plug dubi's guatemalan sativa with which i've had some experience. It's a very happy, floaty high, as well.

In my own quest for a good depression lifting strain I have found that certain landrace sativas and their offspring tend to work best. The "happy" genetics I have found most effective include the Himalayan Charas plants, some Latin American strains like highland Mexican Sativas and Tropical SE Asian strains like Thia.

I am told that many African strains are very stimulating and make good antidepressants, but I have only ever tried a Durban cross a single time so its not really enough to base a real opinion on but it was very nice and upbeat.

I would recommend both Nepelese Jam and Destroyer highly. Both grow amazingly. They are so nice that I have been medicating with the premature Nep Jam and Destroyer buds I trimmed from culled plants, rather than going to the dispensary for the usual Haze hybrids. Although seriously premature, both have a very high quality and amazingly clean effect. The Nep Jam is the less intense but more friendly, and warm of the two. I imagine the finished flowers for both will be considerably stronger with a more complex effect but only time will tell. Nep Jam also seems to work nicely on my stomach problems and grants some pain relief as well which is rare for a nice sativa.

I have found Super Lemon Haze a very good strain for depression, but my luck with growing her has been a bit lack luster. SLH also tends to have some body load and can be a bit muddy and disorientating compared to the more clean and pure sativas. It works well on migraines which I discovered accidentally. If you use to much you find that you have a sort of nagging motivation to do stuff but you are a bit to cooked to do anything about it which can cause some anxiety of sorts.

There are many other strains that have worked for me but I know nothing of how they grow. The ones I remember best from recent times are Willie Nelson, Chocolate Diesel, Jack, Vortex, Super Silver Haze, Sour Diesel, Blue Dream and other Blueberry X Sativa crosses. A lot of the commercial poly hybrids that go around these days have the same problem with a rather muddy effect followed by a bit of burn out.

I have found that less is often more if you are trying to combat depressive symptoms, particularly if you try to use something with a lot of indica in it. For me taking a light to medium dose of good clean sativa and then going out and doing something will do far more to alleviate depression than smoking myself into a couch comma and passing out.

Thanks. I wonder if Charlie is still gonna reproduce it. Not sure what to think after his post about retiring. Should make an Oaxacan/Guatemalan cross!

Himalayan Charas.. Been looking into some malana cream from RSC. Saw a post from Nirrity on here calling them "boring" though in their effects.

Super Lemon Haze by Greenhouse is going to have that "muddy" effect from the skunk influence that most modern bred down hazes have. Most commercial growers are looking for speed (GHS advertises Lemon Haze as a 10 week finisher) and are not willing to wait the 16-22 weeks required for a true haze or haze dominant hybrid. Not bagging on GHS by any means, just explaining why they went that route.

Super Lemon Haze = Lemon Skunk x Super Silver Haze

Super Silver Haze = Skunk x Northern Lights x Haze

Northern Lights = Afghani x Skunk #1 x Haze (afghan-ish leaning pheno)

OP - I have been running the gamut of anything weird I can get my hands on and so far I think anything containing Jamaican, Meao Thai, Guatemalan and the strains you listed should do quite well.

The Himalayan Charas strains or hybrids I've tried were all from Nepal originally. I don't know what the effects are like for charas strains from other Himalayan regions, but I wouldn't call the ones I have tried boring at all. They certainly aren't a roll coaster ride like some of the South East Asian strains and extreme Hazes. They have a dreamy, uplifting and expansive kind of effect. Sort of like warm sunshine in the back of your head. Then again these sorts of things are all very subjective.

Always liked the C-99 from Brothers Grimm stock. Happy and always a good mood elevator. At 7-8 weeks flowering you can't lose with this strain.

C99 is a nice treat from time to time, but the tolerance to its effects just build too rapidly. Its also not something you can be relaxed with, unless ya chop it late. Apollo lines are more up my alley when it comes to Brothers Grim. The mextiza that Charlie made also goes 7-8 weeks and every report I've seen is stellar. Its almost unbelievable considering the parents. Hey BodyMind how long does the Oaxacan 79 go in flower?

Hatter, I can't pass any more rep out today, but respect on the smoking less is more! I've found it to be true as well for my depression.

Re: oaxaca, the field Kaiki had some people seeding down in Mexico got busted he said in the thread over in their sub forum. He said the plants were taken but luckily no one was arrested. Wasnt very clear if that's because the cops were nice or because it was criminals. Either way seems to have gotten Kaiki thinking about the other things he already disliked about the business aspect of the scene. I hope he rejoins us but more so hope he's getting some needed rest.

hi, mr. sterling. thanks for the clarification about kaiki and the oaxacans he had going in mexico....

gerard, the oaxacans are relatively short flowering for such pure sativas and matured for me around the end of october at 30 degrees latitude. I'd say around a 10-12 week flowering time indoors. One that was impressive with the oaxaca79 x oaxaca is that they ripened very evenly for me, and every branch on the fairly openly structured plant was primo.

hey mate just clearing some things up on the super silver haze front, its NL5xHazeC X SkunkxHazeC, i know its listed as what you mentioned on a few sites but thats it. ask nevil hes the breeder.

as for nothern lights it certainly didnt contain haze and unlikely skunk either. if you listen to nevil (the person who brought it to euro) its basically pure afghan, he mentioned the mother reportedly contained thai but he couldnt see its influent in the NL5 line.

High all,

to answer your question Gerardbutler79: Orient Express and Tikal would be the fast flowering hybrids from our catalogue that have this happy quality more present and stabilized. Certain Nepal Jam phenos are also very happy.

If you can grow long flowering tropical sats then without any doubt Double Thai and Vietnam Black Thai. If you are looking just landraces then the guatemala sativa or a good mexican or thai.

Hope it helps! dubi - ACE Seeds -
