Hanging a HEAVY carbon filter

I have a carbon which is extremely heavy. I'm planning on putting a 12 inch fan onto it, but I wanna hang it on the top corner of the room. Any idea on how I can hang it onto there? Yet, I'm still trying to figure out how I can pull it up there considering that no one can give me a helping hand on it.

You are going to want to find the wooden rafters/joists/studs in the ceiling and put some eyelets in. Predrill a pilot hole and put in pretty big eyelets, at leat two on each end, maybe more down the middle. You will probably want to use chain to hang it with.

To lift it, I would hang the chains from all the eyelets on one side. Then run some rope through the eyelets, maybe some pulleys and try to lift the filter using the rope. Once in place, put the chains in place to hold it. Maybe get some cleats and screw them in somewhere so you can tie the ropes off


Or maybe you can rent a drywall lift and jack up the filter? Not sure if those things would hold a heavy filter. or an engine or tranny jack???

Is there no room to let it sit up right in a corner? Sitting up right, it shouldn't take up very much space, and it would be way easier and safer. Imagine if you drop it while your trying to hang it, or if a eyelet pulls out when your near it, or even not near it..... could risk a lot of damage.

The height of the room is a bit over 15ft. My initial setup is to have it sitting on the floor with the fan on top of it and some ducting. However, I have 4kw worth of lights in there and I'm adding another 4kw.

My lights aren't aircooled so the heat just rises. It does not get as toasty in there with 4 lights because I have a 28000 btu AC, but if I just sucked the air out from the floor of the room, I would just be paddling upstream.

I can either A.) build a frame around the room and lower the height, or B.) just have the ventilation suck the heated air from the top.

Either way, I'm in for some heavy lifting.

insteand of just saying its heavy why not include weight and dimensions? im assuming about 2 feet long and close to 100-120 pounds.

You could get 2 or 3 heavy duty lag eyelets, a heavy duty pulley and a tie off cleate for each eyelet, and some rope. Drill holes in the rafters about 1/4" smaller than the shank of the eyelet. Stick a big screwdriver through the eyelet and tighten them up. Fasten a pulley to each eyelet and a tie off cleate (1 for each pully) at chest level on a nearby wall. Secure the 2-3 lengths of rope to the filter, then run each one up to its own pulley and down to the cleate on the wall. Then just lift er up a bit at a time. Ya know, raise one side 6 inches, tie off, then the other side. Rinse and repeat. Best of all, everything you would need is in the same aisle at Home Depot!

mines heavy and on the roof. Heres how I keep mine there, I drilled a flat piece of wood to the roof which is a little wider and about the same lenth as the filter/fan combo. I then installed 4 eyelets, one on each end and used tiedowns to keep it up. Use your imagination im sure you can figure somthing out.

You could add a fan or two to the roof pushing the very top hot air down directly towards the filter. That would probably help the air circulation and clearing out the hot air.

Also you could build a stand that would at least raise the filter a couple feet of the ground getting closer to the hot air range.

I also have the same problem, I have thought if you built a box around the filter and have a duct run up to the ceiling that would solve the problem. So there would be 2 ducts coming out of the box, one going to the filter like normal, the other to the box.
Maybe just taped together plywood of whatever for the box....

Check out a simple block & tackle - 2 pulleys with a rope - sailboat/marine supply stores carry some nice versions that have a rope lock built right in - 1 guy could lift lotsa pounds by himself with one of those rigs.

My buddy and I damn near killed ourselves trying to hang a heavy filter last year. I ended up setting it on a milk crate in the corner and it worked just fine. If you have the space, why not do that?
