Had to put my lab to sleep today.
We enjoyed 12 great years with her.

For the first time in those 12 years, she was calm at the vets.
I'd like to think it was her way of telling us it was okay.

I miss her already.

Bad day.

Yeah man sorry to hear you had to do this. I had to take my kitty cat that I had owned for 14 years a few years back. It is very hard but like you said she was calm for you because she wanted you to know it was ok. Give it time it will get better for sure! One day you might even decide to get another and you will have a new friend, so it's not all bad even though it seems like it now. Take care

When I had to put my Rotti down after having her for 10 years it broke my heart. In fact I couldn't do it, my wife took her. I just couldn't put her in the truck to take her to put to sleep. I tried a few times but always ended up at the lake. I know what your feeling.

My heart go's out to you for the loss of your friend.:ying:

It was one of the hardest deaths I've ever been though loosing my friend of 15 yrs. I know it's hard now, but it will get better.

"How It Is"

Here's a little trap
That sometimes catches everyone
When today's as far as we can see
Faith in bright tomorrows
Giving way to resignation
That's how it is
How it's going to be

It's such a cloudy day
Seems we'll never see the sun
Or feel the day has possibilities
Frozen in the moment...
The lack of imagination
Between how it is and how it ought to be

Here's a little trap
That sometimes trips up everyone
When we tire of our own company
Sometimes we're the last to see beyond the day's frustrations
That's how it is
How it's going to be

It's such a cloudy day
Seems we'll never see the sun
I feel the day is all uncertainty
Burning in the moment
Trapped by the desperation
Between how it is and how it ought to be

Foot upon the stair
Shoulder to the wheel
You can't tell yourself not to care
You can't tell yourself how to feel
That's how it is
Another cloudy day

Had to put four dogs to sleep over the years. Three bull-terriers and one pug.

Hurt every time.

But, as the time passes, it gets easier, and eventually what you remember are all the good times that you had with your friend.

Simply accept the pain, don't resist it, actually let it hurt, and it will get better much faster.

The reality is that she is gone, and not coming back.

Death is part of life, eventually we all will die.

It's just how this life IS.

really sorry man,, i always get choked up with anything dog related,, my belief is you see them again, all that love lasts through time and allows spirits to find each other easy, it's not a religious belief just based on observation and how i have felt from birth..

that's not a bad lifespan for a lab.. ive only ever had too many dogs around me, though ive lost and "grown" many ive never had to live in a quiet home..

which is a double edged sword when you live somewhere this noisy..

sometimes when you lose something and you were just waiting a bit to get the chance to give it more love and attention and you lose it early,, oh man that can really break your heart..

i think a long loved life is the most beautiful thing possible..

Our four-legged compadre's lives are way too short, but the resultant pain is made worthwhile by the love & joy that they bring into our lives. She'll be waiting by the bridge.
