Home DePot & Lowes both carry opaque white roofing/siding , it lets about 70% of the light through. i was thinking about making dwarf teepees out of camo mesh for outdoors. gotta be other materials. they make "shade cloth" from 10 to 90% shade for greenhouses.

the "clear" plastic in the 20X100 rolls at homedepot is not very clear at all. cant see thru it, but id say its maybe 80% transmission. got the same stuff on my greenhouse this year.

i dont mean to be a smartass, but if you dont know to look for plastic sheeting to cover your greenhouse, you have alot of reading to do. :smokeit:

santas pimp, why don't you just go to home depot and ask "i'm after the clear plastic sheeting used to cover greenhouses"... i'm sure they'll know where/what you're after.

4mil is not worth your time/money for a greenhouse - speaking form experience here.... it stretches in heat/wind waaay to easily

go with 6 mil, or if your serious drop some cash on ACTUAL greenhouse plastic from a company that sells GH supplies

clear plastic what exactly? when i go to home depot what do i ask for?
Look in the aisles where they have the paints. I know the HD near me carries 6 mil rolls of plastic. I believe they have them in 10' and 20' widths and rolls from 25' to 100'+.

I suggest if you don't need a lot get the smaller roll. The 100'x20' roll is something like $100. However, it's good stuff.

You might also want to check out Walmart. The one near me carries clear vinyl (it's got to be at least 10 mil) sheeting. It's not very wide, but it's pretty heavy-duty stuff. I think they use it for outdoor table cloths or something, so you should be able to find it in the fabric/crafts section.

P.S. This is a $189 10'x20' Costco carport covered in plastic.

I'm so glad i found this thread because I had the same question.
Now that is a nice set up.:dance013:
I need to build either a hoop house or something like this; I have 10 very large plants and 1 small one.
Did you purchase the frame at costco and then buy the plastic separately?

Oh this looks perfect.

I'm going to bump this old thread and hijack it......like a pirate

Looking at using the 4 mil clear painter's tarp in a guerrilla situation for spring seedling starts.

I'm trying to make this less visible from the ground.

Thinking about using military style camo netting and was wondering if that material would block out to much light.

If technical details matter, here's the breakdown.

-Wire hoops and/or stick and twine frame
-4 mil clear plastic painters tarp
-camo netting draped over the top of tarp
-tarp/top of tent would be between 1 and 3 feet over plants
-probably no bigger than 20 square feet per tent

tent would be used for seedlings through the first few weeks

thanks for any help ICers!

I'm really interested in how somebody would go about setting up the foundation for a "guerilla" greenhouse. Would you plan on using trees to secure the tarp down or build a frame for the tarp? Just curious on ideas, in a very remote location this could be great not near where I live though sadly there are far too many rippers who wander around in the fall.
